Jeff Flake Out, Will Not Seek Re-Election

Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) announced on Tuesday that he will not run for re-election in 2018.

A late August poll showed Flake primary challenger Dr. Kelli Ward, a former Arizona state senator, ahead of Flake by double digits. The poll showed twice as many Arizona Republicans supporting Ward than Flake.

During Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, he is reported to have said he would consider spending $10 million to back a challenger to Flake.

What was wrong with Flake? He voted to repeal/replace ObamaCare. Isn't he gung ho about the Wall?

Immigration.

It got Trump elected. Any republican incumbent, especially in a border state, that takes an open borders amnesty stance is at risk of being defeated.

Flake was going to get paddled. He knows it.

You mean other than remaining a faithfully dedicated NeverTrumper with TDS?

Simple truth is his ego would never allow him to be defeated next election if it were said to be at the hand of Trump...

Good Riddance! ...Such an embarrassment for my state between him and McCain...

Just heard Hannity say Schumer thinks Dems can take the seat. Is this seat now vulnerable?

Just watched his 17 minute crybaby speech, think he must have already felt the paddle - apparently he got called out for his behavior - looked like he was trying to fight back tears. Not as important as he thought he was... boohoo...

Haha, I don't think Jeff Flake was ever excited about the wall. He's viewed in these parts as the face of the Chamber of Commerce.

Well, before long, you're going to have two new senators there, Benjamin. McCain is freaking out more and more by the day. Downside to this is, Flake will now feel free to vote with McCain and Corker to stop the Trump agenda, nothing to lose.

Victory for Bannon, one Deep-Stater down, gadzillion to go. Who is this Kelli Ward every Trump supporter seems to want? I do Flake's approval ratings were at the point he couldn't have beat her in a primary, or if unchallenged, be in danger of the Democrat winning in a anybody-but-Flake ambiance.

And like any left winger, he wanted to blame someone else because he was going to be stomped in the primary. He just couldn't admit it was because he is out of step with his own constituants.

This is good, get the RINO's out of office and replace them with real Constitution loving legislators.

Only in a Trump alternative reality would Flake be considered a "left winger." SNIP

Don't you mean Trump-loving legislators? I have no reason to believe Flake doesn't love the Constitution. Perhaps you could enlighten me.

Thank you. No word games. Just say what you mean. Refreshing. So tired of the usual quibbling.

It appears that Flake was a conservative when he was in the House but when he got in the Senate he started his drift towards the left.

The American Conservative Union ratings for Flake:

House
2002 96
2003 92
2004 96
2005 100
2006 100
2007 100
2008 100
2009 100
2010 96
2011 100
2012 100

Senate
2013 71
2014 92
2015 79
2016 79

Since I searched their database by state of Arizona John McCain was listed next to Flake. McCain was consistently in the mid to upper 70's for his rating.
