"Heal Our Land" - Has anybody else heard this beautiful song written by Senator Orrin Hatch? This song was sung at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington DC (on C-Span), sung by Pastor Wintley Phipps (A Wonderful Voice!) and it is beautiful. Senator Hatch is a Believer, though not a Baptist. (I think he is Mormon.)

Just thought I'd pass this on if anybody is interested. If you have Real Player, there is a link so you can hear it sung by Pastor Phipps. [IMG]

The choir has sung this in our morning service and it's an incredibly wonderful piece of musical literature.

I recommend to anyone reading this... your church MUST get this and sing it at the next memorial day, indemendence day, or similar service.

Do you all worship the same God? When Sen. Hatch says, "God Bless America," do you agree with him?

I just want to emphasize that no matter what the merits of his song might be, Hatch is not a fellow believer in Christ if he is a faithful Mormon.

Mormon teaching is at odds with the scripture in many, many ways. They will use the King James Bible to talk in a similar way to conservative Christians, but their true beliefs are very different.

Yes, Mormonism uses the same terms that we, conservative Christians, use. However, their meanings are far from being in agreement with traditional Christianity. The following website links help to clearify the issues involved:

Dr. Carrigan is the only conservative evangelical scholar that I am aware of who has done and continues to do indepth research into Mormon Christology.

To answer your question which is really not to answer your question:

I can't speak for Senator Hatch and his beliefs just like I can't speak for every "Baptist."

I have some relatives who are Mormon (which initially caused a lot of hard feelings years ago when they made the switch from Baptist/Methodist to Mormon).

To the best of my knowledge, those relatives profess to have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord & Savior and are born again in the Biblical sense. Just as there are some Catholics, Methodists, Pentecostals, and many others who are not Baptist but who are part of the Body of Christ. [IMG]

BTW, did you listen to Sen. Hatch's song on the Real Player link above?

PS, thanks BibleBoyII for the links. [IMG]

    Hello SheEagle,

You are welcome for the links. I'll be in prayer for your family members who have embraced Mormonism. You see the problem is that the "Jesus" that Mormons express faith in is not the Jesus of the Bible, the "God" that they express faith in is not the God of the Bible, and the Holy Spirit that Mormons express faith in is not the Holy Spirit of the Bible. We define these terms for the persons of the Trinity as traditional Trinitarian Monotheism. Mormons define these persons of the Trinity as completely seperate individuals. They also express belief in the Trinity. However, they do not define the Trinity as One God existing in three persons united in the very nature of the divine being. They define the Trinity as three persons of the Godhead united in purpose alone. In Mormon doctrine each person of the Trinity is actually an individual. That is not Christianity. Make them define their terms and you will see that they are being taught or have fallen prey to a false doctrine. Those links that I gave above will help greatly.

My computer wouldn't play the link song, so I'm not sure if it's the same one that we sing at our church. Is it the one that is taken from the Bible? It goes (from memory)" If my people will humble themselves , humble themselves and pray, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and heal their land." Is that sort of how it goes? "Lord heal our land, hear us oh Lord and heal our land, hear our voice and turn this nation back to you." Sorry, I don't know who wrote it, I know it is taken from the Bible, and I'm sick today, or I would be able to find it to reference here.

Yes, It's a powerful song. We sing it a lot.

This thread is truly sad. Are we Baptists really this confused? Mormons aren't Christians.

When Mormons sing about healing the land, they are talking about them (Mormons) taking over the government. This was a prophecy by Joseph Smith, which Hatch restated almost word for word when he ran for president. He claimed that his presidency was needed to save the country since "the constitution was hanging by a thread," which was word for word from Smith's prophecy.

Baptists singing and appreciating a song based on a Joseph Smith prophecy. How pathetic we have become.

I am watching this thread, living here in the midst of Mormon country (we have SIX mormon "churches" and only three catholic, if that demonstrates the inroads this evil, pernicious and soul-damning cult has made in this part of Wyoming).

Mormonism is a parody of Christianity, with a syncretism of many pagan beliefs while using the "language" and the "Bible" of Christians. This thread is on music and a song. Let's leave the false Mormon doctrine out of the discussion or this thread will be closed. And let's remember that this is for "Baptists Only".

    Tanks!

Glad to see you think Joseph Smith's prophecies and Orrin Hatch's alluding to them are as crazy as most people do. If you really want to roll your eyes you should read more of his prophecies.

Sooo. Are some of you saying we can't sing a song if the author was Mormon? Does that mean we can't sing songs written by Catholics or Jews as well?

Remind me to tell the Sunday School folks they can't watch "Prince of Egypt" because Stephen Spielberg is Jewish!!!!
