    Good Evening,

I noticed a link to the following story at the top of the Drudge Report (it was at the top of the page, in red, about Senator Johnson.

    http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/12/13/D8M07D081.html

What the the information Matt took from the article?
    Um, okay.....

    Regards,
    BiR

I heard about this on NPR driving home. I hope he recovers from this but if he is incapacitated the Republican governor can appoint a Republican to replace him and the GOP would keep control of the U.S. Senate.

Interesting that this aspect of the story was that upon which Matt Drudge focused......

Actually, BiR, Drudge is quoting another news source.

I know it seems like jumping the gun, my prayers do go out to him and his family, but the fact is this has political weight. Remember the Wellstone memorial ? I hardly heard the guys name.

I am from South Dakota. Tim Johnson has been one of the best senators South Dakota has ever had. We are praying for his health, and for his family.

I know, and I find it interesting that this is that upon which he focused.

Is that all that matters to Matt Drudge? Notice what he picked out of the story....

You listen to Rush Limbaugh, don't you?

Although I have heard others make this claim, this is an outright lie that Rush just loves to perpetuate. Al Franken, who actually attended the Wellstone Memorial and was a friend of the late Senator, pointed out in his book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them that the claim that this was a pep rally for the DNC was a total lie. He has directly confronted several people on this, forcing a few people who perpetuate the lie to admit that they were not in attendance and only saw the highlight reel. The fact is, it was only one soundbyte that is played ad nauseum. I listen to Rush, and I still hear him claim this, despite being called on it in Al's book. I guess he had "half [his] brain tied behind [his] back" when he heard the soundbyte.

I pray that the Senator has a speedy recovery. The political weight is there, but if I were Matt Drudge, I certainly wouldn't have pointed that out in print as the main thing to take from the story. That is, unless he isn't as impartial as some believe. IMO, that was in bad taste. Note that, as of right now, that comment has been removed from the page.

Should the Governor appoint a GOP to complete the term, it wouldn't surprise me if Senator Lieberman switches parties, giving the GOP a 1-vote majority in the Senate.

Hope you are well, Bro. Curtis - doing any skiing and/or snowboarding?

Lots of Christian love to you and yours,
    BiR (still in Oklahoma)

Al Franken is no more credible as a source of news than Rush Limbaugh is. But I did enjoy the sitcom he was in back in the 90s.

Latest reports say a stroke or heart attack have been ruled out.

Strokes and heart attacks are no fun. I have been there. Wishing Senator Johnson a full recovery from what ever ails him.

    BiR(iO),

What makes you think this? Why would adding a Republican to the line-up persuade Lieberman to switch parties?

If a Republican is added, there would be a 50/50 split, which would give control to Republicans since Cheney is Senate President.

If Lieberman wants to be in the majority, he could just as easily switch now and give the Republicans the same 50/50 split, and thus control of the Senate.

I don't anticipate his switching parties. He is still a Democrat, even if he is in favor of the war. One issue does not determine your affiliation.

btw, tomorrow and this weekend, I will be Bro. James Reed in Houston in Arkansas.

Going to a meeting at Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church just south of Heber Springs.

See, you're not the only one who travels.

That stuff in the Drudge Report is just ugly (quoted or original). But Drudge has never let a lack of good taste stand in his way of making a point.

I too wish him a full recovery.

There should be only one concern here - the health of this man and the feelings of his family.

Yet, I dare say, deep down many Christians are hoping he is to ill to continue.

After all, the GOP - God's Own Party - MUST be in power or America is doomed :sarcasm: .

I don't see that sentiment here, ANYWHERE, Roger, and it's exremely disappointing to see you insinuate so.

    Good day.

Curtis - would never imply that it was here on this forum, but I know enough about some of the churches we have been in to know that this is a reality in some people's hearts :(.

    Hey Ken,

If you can show where he is not being truthful, then by all means show us. But please be careful not to bear false witness. Remember: he was actually at the Wellstone Memorial. In other words, if you had been there, you would have seen him.

Al Franken challenged more than one person on this lie that Rush loves to perpetuate (more proof that Rush is a bad guy). Despite this, and despite the fact that Al is speaking and writing from the perspective of actually being in attendance at this memorial service, Rush continues to portray this as some sort of DNC rally. Rush is wrong.

    Hope all is well,
BiR (heading back to Little Rock in January)

    Bro. James Reed,

I am headed out the door, but I will respond to you when I get back from RURAL Oklahoma.

I wanted to make sure that I wished you a safe trip, in case you are leaving before I can write to you. I pray that God will keep you safe on this trip, and will bless your time there.

Wishing God's Blessings to you and yours,
    BiR

May God curse those who put their faith in the GOP or the Democrats to save this previously God-blessed nation.

As I walked to work, that's what I thought about. I wouldn't think you would do it. Sorry for getting my Irish up.:flower:

I've never liked Matt Drudge, but I seriously doubt he considers himself part of "God's party". I won't go to his site. Also, if you paruse the lefty blogs, you'll see some disgusting stuff about this, as well.

I do, however, feel that an elected official's health is fair game for discussion, and if people want to talk about the political ramifications of this sort of thing, they should be allowed to, as long as it remains respectful.

I got my info about the memorial, from several different news sources, including CNN (the Clinton News network), MessNBC, FAUX NEWS, and C-SPIN, and honestly, Rush mentions it less than most.

So, we have a bunch of Republicans, sitting around like ghouls, caring little about the health and welfare of a Senator, or the feelings of his family, waiting for him to drop dead so that the Republican governor of South Dakota can give the Republicans a 50-50 split in the Senate.

And there, folks, is the party that's the self proclaimed champion of family values.

How many of you felt your heart sink when you found out this morning that he didn't have a stroke, but a chronic condition which the surgery he received likely corrected, and his recovery is quite likely?
