    Good evening -

    As we venture into the Book of Isaiah, chapter 3 continues pointing out the immorality of Israel and Judah (keep in mind that this was written during the era of the divided kingdom.). In 3:8, Isaiah notes that Israel was in dire straits but he also prophecies the fall of Judah, something that would not occur for another century and a half! A note should also be made on the term "bald" in verse 3:17. Baldness was associated with mourning at this time. Isaiah also spends a great deal of prose concentrating on the outward display of jewelry and adornment by the jewish women. The end of the chapter reveals their fate of being led into bondage.
    Chapter 4 shifts gears totally and flourishes into a prophecy of the Messiah. The "Branch of the Lord" is the Christ and in this case may double to represent Judah. This is the message of redemption after the long discourse of condemnation since the beginning of the Book. Verse 5 and 6 echo the journey of the Israelites during their period of wandering the desert before entering the Promised Land.
    In chapter 5, the vineyard is Israel (and Judah) as explained in verse 7. This metaphor will be repeated often throughout Isaiah. It is also possibly this writing that inspired Christ's Parable of the Tenants found in Matthew 21:33-44; mark 12:1-11; and Luke 20:9-18.

    In Luke today Christ puts a theological riddle before the teachers of the Law concerning the Divinity of the Christ. The point being made is that an ancestor would not call his offspring "lord" unless there was also the shared lineage from God. The cited passage comes from Psalm 110:1.

    As I always enjoy so much in these readings, Psalm 110:1 is also part of the focus in Hebrews 1:13. The author continues expanding on the concept that Christ is the very Radiance of God's Glory.

    Isaiah 3:1 See now, the Lord, the LORD Almighty, is about to take from Jerusalem and Judah both supply and support: all supplies of food and all supplies of water...

    The Lord "is about to." It hasn't happened yet, but it is imminent. It's at the door. Just pause a moment and give your attention and you will see it come to pass.

    Why the judgement? Because: </font>
    • Their words and deeds are against the LORD (vs 8). Baptists pride themselves on their influence on the First Amendment. However, today's interpretations, that government is to be religiously neutral, are nothing like what was intended by the Baptists or the Founding Fathers.</font>
    • They parade their sin like Sodom (vs 9)</font>
    • The youth and women, those who were made to be under authority, are in authority oppressing the people (vs 12).</font>
    • The plunder from the poor is in their houses (vs 14). IRS :mad:</font>
    The Lord is angry, He will bring judgement. He will remove the glory of the women and make their heads bald, vs 17, 1 Cor. 11, and bring war upon the men, vs 25.
    He is about to take from them both supply and support. Behold.

    But wait...

    The Lord will wash away the filth of the women of Zion; he will cleanse the bloodstains from Jerusalem by a spirit of judfment and a spirit of fire. Then the LORD will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and glow of flaming fire by night; over all the glory will be a canopy. It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain, Isa. 4:4-6.
