SEVEN THOUSAND FAITHFULS
Romans 11.4
This verse shows that no matter how many people left in Israel after GOD'S wrath on them, the remnants of faithful always will be save from calamity and live. In GOD'S eyes is not the quantity of people is important, but the quality of the people is the most important thing for GOD. The number seven always plays important role in many instances recorded in the Bible and sometime signifies even eternity.
For example, in Luke 17.4: "And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times saying, 'I repent,' forgive him." Here number 7 is not the actual account of times for forgiveness but means that you shall forgive indefinitely.
But here seven thousand means the actual number of survivors who and truly loyal and faithful to GOD, who have not bowed the knee to Baal. This was happening during the reign of Ahab, 7th king of Israel and his wife Jezebel, godless and extremely wicked people. At that time the active prophet was Elijah the Tishbite to whom GOD issued these words:
"I have kept for Myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal." (1Kings 19.18) (Romans 11.4).
Verse 5 is a conclusion verse that summarized result of such condition in Israel
5. "So too at the present time there is a remnant (remnant of Israel), chosen by Grace (saved by Mercy of GOD).
~ 4-5.14. "Only a remnant will be preserved and return." (Genesis 45.7) (2Kings 19.31) (Isaiah 4.3, 10.20-22, 17.7, 37.31-32) (Joel 2.32) (Obadiah 1.17.21) (Hosea 3.5, 6.1) (Micah 4.7-9) (Romans 9.27, 11.4-5).
Similar thing happened long before Israel was formed as a single nation, it had happened with Moses. GOD said to Moses that He will destroy all the people when they sin against Him in the desert and will create a new nation from Moses.
In this case GOD spare only one man, a single remnant of entire population, to make for Himself a new breed of people to serve Him (Exodus 32.9-10) (Numbers 14.12) (Deuteronomy 9.14) (Psalm 109.13).
In another instance GOD spare only two people from entire population, Joshua and Caleb, the most loyal to Him men, in order to allow them to enter the land of Canaan, but the rest of their generation perished in the desert, including Moses (Numbers 14.30).
The lesson here is obvious, that GOD always have a remnant of loyal people to Him no matter how small the number is.
The same principal applies and to Christian who counted in millions in this world, but only few will be saved.
Luke 13.23-24
23. And someone said to Him, 'Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?' And He said to them,
24. 'Strive to enter by the narrow door, many I tell you will seek to enter and will not be able. (Matthew 7.13-14).
