Seventh Day Baptist History.

The Seventh Day Baptist church, are one of the oldest Evangelical Protestant churches worldwide. beginning in 1650 in England and planting a church which is still going in Rhode Island in 1671, The Seventh Day Baptists have a rich and colourfull history. I would be really interested in comments concerning the Saturday Baptist Church. bearing in mind they fellowship with Sunday Keepers and consider the Saturday Sabbath not to be related to salvation, any comments on that would be better posted as a topic in another forum

Gidday, no it is extremley doubtfull that that could have happened. Seventh Day Baptists do not have a founder. They originally came out of a church that split over the Sunday issue. They felt it was more in keeping with the Early church to meet on Saturday. It was also connected to a much bigger issue which was a movement within the christian community in England, to get rid of all of the Catholic Doctrines like Purgatory, Sunday Sabbath Keeping, Papal Authority, Praying to Mary etc.

Interstingly enough, they arrived on the scene not long after the 1611 King James Bible also gave Catholiscm a slap in the face.

It is amazing to know that in as little as a hundred years ago, Sabbath keepers were being martyed in the Ukraine. Even Jews today are being advised to return to Israel from the Ukraine, because of the Onimous attitude towards them by certain Orthodox churches who are regrouping.

People see the Sabbath Keeping of the Seventh Day Baptist church, and put us in a box. There is alot more to the Seventh Day Baptists than just this. The movement really does try to be like the Early Church. It is well worth considering some of the things they have to say about running a church. Hopefully their ideas can be a blessing to many, who have been taken in by Added on doctrines.

 

Gidday Mark, worshipping on Saturday, certainley would be a big difference. Another interesting difference is that the pulpit ministry is shared as equally as possible amongst the membership that are called. For example if you were a member and felt that you had a sermon or a bible study that you would like to give or lead, it is likely that you would be given the opportunity to do that.

Another intersting thing is the churches doctrine. All members must accept Jesus as there Lord and Saviour, Baptism is practiced. The bible has to be accepted as Gods Word. However, you have the right to have an opinion. Take an issue life Pre Mill or Post Mill. You could be either depending on your interpretation of scripture, and others cannot push there opposing view onto you. Seventh day Baptists in Australia have both a meeting and a bible study. The membership are really encouraged to get into the word and find out what different things mean.

It is hard for me to give another denomination that is like the SDB, There are stacks more denominations in the U.S than Australia. The Seventh Day Adventist Church are Poles apart from us. People traditionally have left the Adventist Church and tried us, but discovered that we are not as law based and authoritarian based. We keep Saturday because of Early church history, not because of a law based interpretation. Some people say SDB are closest to the Sunday keeping Baptist church, but which denomination, who knows?
