Should a church have....

You know, this is a very good question to ask!! I may be in the lower percentile with this, but here it goes. I see nothing wrong with a church having an easter egg hunt, provided it's after church, and not included in the services. However, they(the kids)need to be taught what easter is really about, Jesus raising from the tomb, victoriuos over death, hell, and the grave.
If it's wrong to have an easter egg hunt, y'all better be burning the CHRISTmas tree before y'all decorate it this year....provided y'all have one in your church!!!
Is there anything wrong with taking kids to see a Mickey Mouse movie? Or a street carnival? A circus? A Fall Festival?
I'm 66 years old. I can still remember some of the fun things from my early childhood days. One of 'em is running around the yard with other kids my own age just having fun; riding a bicycle for the first time by myself; playing in the snow, etc.
To me, little kids spending time with their families running around the yard hunting hidden Easter Eggs is harmless. Just watch the expression on their faces when they find one. What a blessing. Children aren't the slightest bit concerned about doctrine but rather, having fun. Let 'em have their fun as they are only Children once.
Find one person in the world today that was warped as the result of an Easter Egg hunt.

It depends on the focus of the activities.
At our house (not in our church, just a private thing we do for the children and their friends) we have an Easter egg hunt. We the little plastic eggs and place a "clue" (a Bible verse) and a piece of candy inside. When the children find all of the eggs, we put the "clues" together and they add up to the Gospel.
I think it's a great way to teach children why we celebrate Easter.
On the other hand, if it's just about the Easter Bunny and that Easter Sunday is just a time to get dressed up and play games after church then, no, I don't think we should do that.
When we had easter egg hunts at the church I pastored we would use the egg as a tool to show God.
We would show the kids the egg whole.
Crack it open and seperate the white from the yoke.
Then ask which part is not the egg?
The shell cracked Christ broken for us.
The white clear not seen but there like the Holy spirit no seen but felt, like the wind.
The yoke the center God the Father the central person of Godhead.
Yet each part even seperated is one egg like God is one in essence.

My answer is no. The day is about the Lord, not bunnies and eggs. I just believe that the church should not be in the business of conflicting the message. If individual parents want to skew the day with this secular tradition that is there business although I think them very foolish. And yes the church I attend is having an egg hunt after service which I disagree with, but it is also a emergent church in several ways even if it denies such.
Every Easter we conduct about 30 to 40 Easter egg hunts around our community to reach people who otherwise might not connect with us. They have been highly effective.
We love doing Easter egg hunts. They are a lot of fun. I don't understand why people would have a problem with them. From our end they are amazing opportunities that cause no theological or methodological problems.

I could probably use a good swithin. However I most likely will be leaveing this church in the next few months, sometime in late June. I have a class to teach in on the topic of surrender and after that is done, unless the Lord burdens me to stay I will be leaving.
If one does an in-depth study of the Christmas Tree you will come to the conclusion that there is really nothing wrong or pagan about it at all.
Back in the day, not knowing how to celebrate the birth of Christ many items were absorbed and used for the celebration. The tree, the holly, etc., was items collected from many different belief's that existed at the time.
A Christmas Tree has finally settled down to be the mainstay of the birth of Christ. The economic aspect of the season is another topic all together.

Why would you wait?
Like I said, hunt eggs anywhere and everywhere you want EXCEPT AT CHURCH, which is supposed to be in the business of saving souls by preaching the WORD from the Bible - such props are not necessary.
And no, we don't have decorated Christmas trees at church either...same reason.

Not to be offensive, but this shows an ignorance of the definition & purpose of the church. God does not dwell in buildings. That is an Old Covenant temple belief. We ARE the church & we assemble for edification & instruction; not for evangelism of the saints. Evangelism is Biblically performed out in the world where the lost live. Paul used many "props" in his epistles to believers & what of Jesus' miracles? Using types & making comparisons are communicational tools as old as time. If we only meet to preach the Word, are you against gluttonous potlucks at church gatherings? Gluttony is a clearly defined sin within Scripture, but egg hunts are not.

But the WORLD looks at us for example....and is more than happy to jump on anything and sensationalize it to the ruination of the message.
When a person walks into a church building, hopefully they will find the truth and nothing but the truth - not confusion and mixed messages.

A lot of churches have fall festival and have the kids dress in costumes. So some do have a type of Halloween party, it's just called a festival.
As I stated if an unbeliever is in the service when you use the egg to show how God is one in essence but has three personalities there is no confussion. There is gospel.
Should? I don't know if you should or not, but we are, we're Baptist so we get to decide for ourselves. If you don't want to that is fine, but it is hardly a matter of great Biblical doctrine or practice. I love taking the secular things of this world and applying a biblical lesson with them.

I see no harm in the easter egg hunt, provided its after the service is over. Kids always remember those who are good to them, and those who mistreat them. Who knows, there may come a time when God begins drawing them, and they remember the church that let them hunt easter eggs, among other things, and go there, and be saved. Like I said, who knows......
