Not enough information. Is this person a fornicator or simply living under the same roof with a person of the opposite sex?

If you approach this issue in that manner, where does it end? Maybe you should just write down a big list, tell people they can only go if they dont do:

    this
    this
    this
    this
    that
    and this.

I bet if you list enough things you could find some stuff that you're doing yourself.

Not only should this person not go on a mission trip he or she should be purged from the fellowship. Please see 1 Corinthians 5.

"I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:" - 1 Corinthians 5:9

I'd say the first thing you need to do is not speculate, but ask. If they admit to it, they shouldn't go. If not, then you've got to take them at their word unless you can prove otherwise. Until you get to that point, no matter what it might look like, you don't know for sure.

This is the reasonable post of this thread. This is what the book of Matthew says. One cannot lead or have a leadership position while committing blatant, public sin. We all sin, but we try to be more like Jesus every day. When a Christian sins, he asks forgivenss, is restored to God, and goes on with his or her life. It is not a continual, habitual pattern.

Having said that, if this alludes back to the other thread where someone started on a brother and sister living together in their 70s as being wrong, please, lets dont go down that ridiculous path again.

I think the person in question would be troubled in spirit and not even think of contributing to the church.

That said, it is not for me to judge.

Why is he doing the above question might be a good one to ask.

Christians do fall into sin, it is the duty of the Church to restore such a one. Life aint over till it's over!

Besides, Jesus is the Great Shepherd and a Good one at that.

He cares for us more than the Church does. And that is a fact.

In some Christian sub-cultures it is perfectly acceptable to “live together” and still profess Christianity. :tear:

I’m rarely surprised anymore about what people can justify as acceptable in their own lives.

Should a person cohabitating, who attends church regularly, tithes, and serves coffee be allowed to go on a mission trip with the church?

Why were they not confronted with this sin before this mission opportunity came up?

IMO someone needs to come-along-side the person and confront them in love and discuss the situation.

If the person is a Christian, then they already know that cohabiting without marriage is a sin.

They need to be reminded that it is a sin.

They need to understand that their actions are observed by others, both within and outside the church.

People going on missions trips go as representatives of the church.

How do you confront the person?

The verse in Galatians 6:1-3 once again comes to mind:

“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself." (Galatians 6:1-3, ESV)

Can they go on the missions trip?

    I think it’s possible…
…but they need to work on some things first and get right with God.

I believe anyone who is in fornication and say they are on a mission for God is deceived or trying to deceive others and is a hypocrit and needs to repent and get right with God. To do that the first thing you have to do is get out of the fornication. Oh well, I learn something new on here everyday.

I would like to hear the explanation of how one in fornication could go out and witness to someone else to try to get them to repent? Somebody tell me.

I think I agree with you, Paul talked about people who were not right with God and still preached the Gospel.

He was happy that the Gospel was preached, quite interesting that!

    Food for thought!

    What is the Gospel?

In my almost 35 years of pastoring I have had several men that we laid hands on to ordain to preach and they could outpreach many of the other brethren but all the time were those who came in unawares to seek out our liberty. Most run off with a young woman, but while they were preaching and before we found out the truth, what they preached seemed to be to the edifying of the church and like Paul, we all did rejoice. But the Lord said nothing covered that shall not be revealed and in time the truth came out. I think that must of been what Paul was talking about. Your thoughts?

    Philippians, chapter 1

14: And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.
15: Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:
16: The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17: But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
18: What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

I think cohabitating is just a neat little word for "shacking up". Better not let the word out or you will have more missionaries than you can use.
