Should Christians Own Guns????

Owning guns is as biblical as owning swords, or bows and arrows, or slings, or fishing nets, or other methods of defense/hunting.

There is no chapter and verse either way. For simple reasons, I wouldn't have a gun in my house. Guns are designed to kill, period. I saw enough of guns through two wars. One of which I lived through, and the other through which I served.

My one daughter owns guns, stores them and uses them responsibly, but it is not for me, thank you very much.

Cheers,

Jim

Should we own cars? They kill more people than guns.

Should we own computers with all the junk out there on www?

Guns, cars, computers...and a thousand other things aren't Biblical. Maybe the Amish are right after all? :)

I owned a SKK for a while (pic says that's a SKS, but near enough to get the general idea), the only thing it ever killed while I had it were pieces of paper on the 100 yard line.

some folks shouldn't own them (not responsible or mature, young children in house and no way to secure guns, etc.)

For others, it's a matter of conscience. Until I'm in the situation, I can't be sure...I don't know if I would or could shoot someone in self-defense.

If they came after wife or kids with intent to maim, rape, or kill...I doubt I'd have much trouble pulling a trigger.

I think Christians should own guns if at all possible.

Luke 22:36
36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

I own rifles and pistols as does my wife and my 2 daughters.

But I'm not sure that Luke 22:36 is teaching the owning of weapons.

A sword isn't a weapon?

Gen 34:25 And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males.

If its not a weapon how come they took each man his sword and slew all the males what did they slay them with if its not a weapon.

Gen 34:26 And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out.

Should a christian own a gun I think the answer is YES. How else can you protect your family from robbers and killers. I know I know some will say put your faith in the lord and I do, however I think he made someone smart enough to make guns in order that I can protect my family so in essence I am trusting in the lord by owning a gun that he had someone make so that I can trust in him.:tongue3:

Should they have to? No. Should they not? No. This is a personal decision. I own 7 guns 3 handguns and 4 Longguns. I enjoy shooting them.

Chop off someones ear? :)

Back to guns: I'm pro-guns. I don't think there's a legitimate Biblical reason to own a gun, but at the same time, I don't see any verse that condemns owning weapons.

My reasons for being pro-gun are because I think it's the patriotic thing to do. The ACLU isn't the thing that is supposed to safeguard our rights and freedom. It's the government that is supposed to, under an armed people. It also serves as a tool of defense and for fun.

What I meant was that this was not a command by Jesus at least in the context...

So Jesus was telling the men to gather their swords to do what??? and to do it when???? Was he saying to lead an armed revolution? Was he telling them to go hunting?

I don't know exactly what Jesus meant but I'm not sure that you can take this verse and prove that it is a Biblical command to own weapons.

Like I said, I own alot of weapons. We've taught our daughters to use rifles and pistols. We've eaten meat I've shot. So I'm not arguing against owning weapons, I'm just questioning the use of the verse.

The way that I read the verse, he was giving the disciples permission to defend themselves.

That is how I read it as well.
I also thnk back to His parable of the strong man, where He says, if the man had known the huor of the robbery he would have defended his house.

Yes, I think we should and we've got a houseful we use for hunting and target shooting and just generally blowing stuff up. (in a responsible way, of course)

Could I shoot a burglar? Yes. I don't think I'd be able to stand by and see my family endangered although I might feel the need to repent of it later.
