I agree!

My social security is taxed!
While in the military, my pay was taxed

So anyone with some kind of income -
SHOULD pay some tax - even if its $50 a year
(that would only be $1 a week! )

Everyone should have a stake in our country.

AND there are several other points that the Senator made!

I have nothing against being taxed. I do get tired of the multi taxes and extra "fees" that end up in me being taxed twice or thrice. If govt taxes income, then no sales tax. If govt taxes sales, then no income tax. Just tax me once and let me be. As it is, I get taxed before I get paid, then taxed on what I purchase, then taxed on my own property, then taxed on water and sewer, then taxed..., etc, etc.

Yep. You actually get taxed multiple fold on everything. Go buy something, then think backward through how many times it was taxed And how many to es your money that bought it was taxed. I estimate that middle class are actually being taxed at around 70%.

People complain about loopholes - Did you know that if you purchase something with food stamps - the store cannot charge sales tax.
Now some States/Commonwealths tax all food
Here in New York - most foods are not taxes - unless its takeout.
however - Orange juice is not taxable - but Orange drink is.
Candy bars, soda, ect are taxed - unless you are on food stamps.

I contend those using food stamps should not be tax exempt.

Now - you mentioned either income tax or sales tax
I agree, thus the reason I support the Automatic Electronic tax.

The one proposal I do NOT like is the one which gives a "pre-bate"
that is just plain stupid - because it is more govt paperwork.

Agree. Every person should pay 10%, and not a penny more. That is the only way it can be “fair”.

peace to you

Actually, it could be less than that
But first - we need to reduce the Federal budget.

Now every Congressman is in favor of spending less federal tax dollars
EXCEPT
A. For their pet projects
B. For their Districts!

My Populist bent typically puts me at-odds with most of my Social Conservative friends in the realm of taxes.

In direct answer to the question, "Should everyone pay taxes?". Mostly - See Milton Friedman's Negative Income Tax.

My opinion on taxes:
Corp Taxes:
-Globalist Corps with Globalist Goods - High Taxes
-U.S Corps with Globalist Goods - High Taxes
-U.S Corps with U.S Goods - Medium Taxes
-Small Business - Low Taxes

Personal Taxes:
-Upper Class - High Taxes
-Middle Class - Low Taxes
-Lower Class - Low Taxes using Negative Income Tax as per Milton Friedman

I agree 100% with @Salty that the Federal Government needs to be reigned in. The budget is insanity and needs to have some massive cuts applied to it.

Should everyone be taxed at a federal level? No. We have no true representation there. Let the federal government tax States to provide what they are supposed to provide and States can tax its citizens.

My other answer is everyone but me should be taxed.

Either way.

I could go along with that - so if we did - so if the budge is - say 100 billion dollars - and we have 400 million residents than a state or commonwealth would be charged $250 per person. - - or just adults - what about those in prison - what about the Amish (in PA) what about.....

need more details.....

The Amish in TN have to pay federal income tax. Let them pay the State.

Release those in prison, with monitors implanted, to California. @Squire Robertsson can keep an eye on them. We won't tax him.

Expecting people to pay taxes on what they earn, then pay taxes on the money left over when they spend it, and paying taxes on taxed money like SS or retirement money, and paying taxes on property, is not right. There should only be one kind of tax and that should be state sales tax and the federal government get their money from each state based on population with each state paying the same rate per person with no exemptions, no deductions and no exceptions.

I think most people do pay taxes, maybe not directly. Federal and state income taxes are another ball of wax, almost half of all Americans pay no federal income tax.

You must live in one of a dozen or so states that tax SS, totally against that. I actually almost bought a farm in NY state once but the property taxes were 22k a year at the time with no exemptions. I hope they removed that cap on SALT of 10k, it really hurt those of us in blue states,

State and property taxes vary widely, like sales taxes. In my state, it's almost as high as in Florida (tourism dollars), the property tax is "moderate", and there is no state sales tax. The poor pay none and pay a flat fee of something like 60 cents no matter what the bill using their EBT card. I guess they do pay property taxes indirectly through rent, even if section 8> Renters here seem to be finally catching a clue, they had stopped rubber-stamping the endless school bonds.

But property tax is the most offensive - not your house, not your land, you are paying the corrupt government money to rent it from them it seems. Alabama has no property taxes if you are a resident over 65, I would move there if I qualified, just make sure I was near the Gulf or had a pool with the house.
