Have a Special OP's unit created only for females, if that the problem... Brother Glen:)

Btw... With the Marines in Vietnam in 1965 we were attack by one enemy that had nine lives, try as much as we could, we couldn't kill them... Then finally we succeeded, we said man that VC put up quite a fight and we went to see who he was and turned him over and it was a Woman.

There is more to special ops than combat. I've been reading this morning and educating myself as to the complete description of a special ops serviceman.

They also serve in peacetime, they participate in things like demolitions and clean up [must learn about explosives], they participate in search and rescue, and reconnaissance.

That is what I liked about being in a Combat (Armor) unit - no females!
In my non-combat units - I did supervise several women. Of the 20 or so - there were only two that were worth their salt!

Scarlett, I have a question for you. At one unit I had a female who messed up. I decided the punishment would be that she would pull guard duty on an overnight sift. She complained to the Major - who told me, I can not make a female pull overnight guard duty. ----- Thoughts?

Then he should have let your decision stand.

AND then after that - I told her to "stick" the tanker. ie -Get on top of the 5,000 gallon tanker - use the stick to see how much fuel we had left. She cried to the Major (again) that she was afraid of getting on top of the tanker!
Once again - Major said I could not make her do it!

Within my section I had about 5 - 5,000 gallon tankers and about 5 - 1,000 gallon tankers.
In addition, we had a tractor trailer of CIF equipment (helmets, ammo pouches, rain gear, ect.

(there was one other situation with the Major (had nothing to do with females ) but otherwise he was a great commander!

Agreed. My first thought was "It seems to depend on the special operation being needed."

From the link: as female soldiers complained of sexism, isolation, poor-fitting and inadequate equipment, and lack of child care and health care, particularly involving pregnancy.

Special Ops has no time for "lack of child care" when they need to deploy - they need to go ASAP. (and the same goes for males!) The Army does have a reg that requires all single parents to have have a family care package.

    See paragraph 5-3

As far as pregnancy - IMHO - once a female is pregnant - then she needs to be transferred. (and the same should be true for anyone who is hospitalized for 45 days or more.) The reason for this is that as long as an individual is on the roll - then he cannot be replaced.

Special Ops - needs to be fully staffed at all times.

I'm not disagreeing with you nor am I demanding child care for females in special ops.

I'm just agreeing with taisto. You asked should females be in special ops. I said it depends on the task involved.

    I think I'll bow out.

    And I appreciate your input!

Of course, I served in the military many years - though I never served in nor supported (in my jobs) any Sp Ops units.

Not saying I am better than anyone else - but my views are in part made by my experience.
