Should personal attacks be tolerated in private messages?

Some members on this board hide behind private messages and attack others. They are shamed by their attacks, so must do it in darkness. Are attacks like the following acceptable in private messages?

[quickest way to get kicked off? post private messages in public. :) ]

Matt Wade..., I don't have a clue as to whom you're referring to but you need to bury the hatchet. Every e-mail server I've ever seen has a "delete" button. Use it! Don't read it! ...get on with your life.

Or put them on ignore. Then you won't see the private messages.

It shouldn't come to that. Agree with Don on the deployment of the Ignore List. I've got 21 posters on mine. Works great.

Maybe taking a poll would be in order? You know, like another unnamed poster likes to do so much...

There is nothing wrong with handling disagreements in pm's. In fact the board admins encourage that. If one does not want to deal with that then put them on the ignore list and they will not be able to even send you a pm.

So much hate on here. You guys need to meet in an old abandoned parking lot and get it out of your system. Message board drama is silliness.

Hello Matt. Not sure if we've spoken before. Definitely not acceptable. Some of the posters do quite a bit of that kinda talk in their posts too. But keep private messages private. If you're receiving private messages of the sort you posted, make sure that the mods know. You may also choose to block private messages from everyone except the Mods.

Hope this helps.

PMs should not be debates, or attacks. Discussion you don't want public is OK. I personally have a tendency to be more polite in a PM (as a couple of you can attest to) than I am on the board. On the board you can let impassioned arguments get emotional. A PM is a calmer, "let me figure this out" kind of thing.

Edited to add: while this might come off as a "diss", it's not intended that way. But I do not personally advocate the use of ignore. It's the easy way out. You can learn something from anyone, even if you are just learning how stupid they are.

More polite? You are one of the most civil people on the site.
Lol. Thank you. Maybe "less confrontational" would have been better. I am more inquisitive of other's opinions and why they think that way in PMs, instead of arguing against them.

Some folks have no problem calling a whole group of people hateful racists, bigots, hating the poor, and having their charitable work questioned, or even denied, then I see the same folks complain about how they are treated. It's stupid.

Grow up.
