Should the USMC be absorbed by the Army -

I remember the "one size fits all" approach during JFK's administration. We got the F111 which nobody liked.

We certainly have redundancies within our military, but diversity also has its benefits, such as we test different weapons in combat and see which one blows the top off the enemy tanks.

Right now our smart weapons cost way too much, but if we can unravel the cost and production issues, they will save lives no matter the color of the uniform.

 

We really don't need the marine corps. They are no longer S F. They have let women in their ranks bring the fighting ability of the Corps down to the level of the Army, so may as well consolidate them.

 

It's a stupid stupid statement. The Marine Corps is a dept. of the Navy. It is already absorbed. We get our funding from the finding of the Navy. It's the ground forces of the Navy. That guys is talking out of his depth.

That said, Denny’s arguments don’t make the case. He overestimates the capabilities of the other services to take on the Marine Corps’ missions, underestimates the massive structural challenges inherent in his proposal, does not account for the ever-adapting nature of the Marine Corps as a service, and does not appreciate the unique synergy of the service as a fighting force.​
