and a denomination where the only things required for membership are acceptance by faith of Jesus as Savior and traditional morality? Seems like that would cut down on a lot of strife.

pragmaticism is the source of many denominations already. However, strife is essential (Mt. 10:35; 1 Cor. 11:19) because we are in a spiritual war zone and anyone standing for the truth will be the object of attack. You are simply voting to throw the Bible out the church window in order to have peace.

And you have just undone your new just the essentials church by making those an issue.
What does everyone think about Paul saying he wanted know nothing among the people he wrote to except Christ and Him crucified? Seems to me that would be more inline with what you're trying to accomplish, Michael.....but we know most people won't let it stop there.

I would basically agree with that. But you're right -- most won't let it stop there.
God is not the author of confusion and there are some necessary essentials for unity in "one body" or it will soon cease to exist as "one body" (Eph. 4:3-6).
Then look no farther than the United Methodist…”Open hearts, Open minds and Open doors”…and most normally have a pretty jammin house band…
How can they be an essential part of the faith when they do not have anything to do with Christ?
I would say abstaining from sin, by recognizing who you are as a new creation in Christ, is an essential aspect of the Christian life. Therefore any sin must be confronted. However, we need to recognize that it is not part of the nature or work of Christ on the cross....unless you expect us all to be convicted of every sin in our life, and therefore perfect, at the moment of our salvation. We all know spiritual growth, the conforming of us into the image of the Son (per Romans 8:28-30) is not instantaneous.

The UMC is pro-choice, and their new baptism statement affirms baptismal regeneration. Their pastors MUST affirm belief in infant baptism.
