Should we have Sunday School?

In another thread Sarge stated: "Actually, we do not need age groups. Indeed, that is buying into what the Communists use to indoctrinate children to revel in their peer groups rather than look to the older generation for wisdom. The one room school house helped build the greatest generation because the older learned to care for the younger and the younger looked up to the older. Sunday School as started by Roger Raikes in England was literally school that met on Sunday so that the kids that had to work during the week could learn the 3 Rs. It was not a discipleship program. A devotion was given, but the primary purpose was to tutor and prevent illiteracy and other ignorance. We brought it over here and messed it up. As men are to be the primary teachers of children in the ways of God our SS teachers should be males or husband and wife teams with the man giving the training and the wife giving nurture to the kids. " bb

So - what is the scoop about SS? (or Sabbath School!)
Does Scripture Require us to have SS
Does Scripture prohibit us from having SS
Is SS a good ideal or not a good ideal?
What about Junior Church - What should be the age limit

How about youth groups, such as AWANA, Bible camps, ect.......

For those who think we do not need SS - because their parents can teach them or because they will understand the message (even from the KJV) -
I have this to say:
those parents/churches that think that way - then there is no need to send your kids to elementary school! Just send them to college classes - using the principal of the one-room school house!

In addition - if your kids bring their non-Christian friends to church - will they get proper Bible training at home?

Prov. 22:6

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

"Train up" means to hedge in a child, in this context it refers to the Holy Bible, the way he should go.

My Biblical foundation began in SS, and my Mom's determination to raise me in the admonition of the Lord.

It was true for me, I have grown old now, and I have not departed from it.

Does attending a church save anyone? The answer is: “It depends.” Attending a church that reads and follows the Bible, a church where one can hear expositional preaching from the actual word of God, a church where one can interact with other Christians that know Jesus and can provide true fellowship … can be of great benefit. Attending a church that is christian in name only (as many liberal social club denominations have become) … will be of little benefit.

So, too, with “Sunday School” or “Children’s Church”. As a tool in the hands of godly people following a call to serve Jesus by reaching and teaching the next generation, it can be of great benefit [although as the Bible says, only God can cause the growth no matter how well we plant or water]. As yet another human program to prevent children from disturbing the service, or a daycare to entertain the youth as the church service entertains the adults … children’s entertainment is no more sanctifying than adult entertainment.

So the answer is … “It depends.”
