Should we look at Catholics as As unchurched!?!
Unlike may thing of a Baptist.

I would not think I would need to go in to an area where there is a sound Bible or Baptist church and start one. But if I went to and area where there is only a Catholic church I would look at it in the same light as a Buddies temple.

I would think that these people need Christ and be saved. [IMG] :D [IMG]

    What do you think?

I think every heart WITH Christ is a missionary and every heart WITHOUT Christ is a mission field!

There are a few Catholics that are saved (very few) because they are trusting in Christ alone for their salvation, and not church membership, baptism, or other sacrament. But, as a whole the Catholic religion is based upon works salvation, and is heretical. They are therefore a mission field, and thats why we send missionaries to Catholic countries like Mexico, the Phillipines ect..ect.

If this is true should we not try to get the saved ones in a true Bible teaching church and try to get theother saved? :D

My co-workers are predominately Catholic, and my expereince has been that most I encounter are non-attending Catholics who haven't stepped foot in a church for years. They still consider themselves members since they still send there check every month. Again this is my expereince.

I am a realatively new beleiver in Christ and still very immature in my faith. But my co-workers seem very interested in what I learn at church on Sundays. I have found them all very inquisitive so I openly talk religion with them all the time.

And yes, from what I have learned they should definitely be considered a mission field.

Hi John3v36. Thank you for your follow up. Jesus reached out to EVERY section of society. It seems the worse they were, the more he ministered! We should follow HIS example. There are only TWO kinds of people in the world. Those who are saved and those who are not. Words like "Catholic" or "Baptist" or "Calvinist" are just that - WORDS. Behind those words are REAL PEOPLE. People who need to hear the Gospel of salvation just as badly as you and I.

It is our glorious obligation to minister to each and everyone. Yes, Jesus said; "...Go ye into the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16: 15). Note: EVERY CREATURE. Roman Catholics are as much in need of salvation as any other. I am humbled and thankful to GOD for every opportunity that I have to share the Gospel with a Catholic, a Baptist, a Presbyterian, or any other. I know that I am unworthy.

Most empahtically yes! My husband was a practicing catholic when we met and now, praise God, he's saved by grace.

I love how Granny put it and agree with her wholeheartedly. I'm not concerned with what man-made label someone goes by, but whether they are saved by Grace through faith. If they aren't, then it's my job to present the gospel. It's surprising and sad how many "religious" people aren't sure of their salvation (even some Baptists). And that is what it's all about....pointing people to Jesus.

Lord, let me be a witness.

I think we should start out by trying to make sure all the people in Baptist churches are Christians.

    rsr,

Actually, we have to, or are suppose to go where the Lord calls us to go. So some will be called to police the local church for the lost and some will be called for the mission field abroad. :D

Roman Catholicism is "orthodox" as a christian (not pagan) religion only in the broadest sense.

Consider any organizaed religion that teaches heaven/paradise/nirvana by anything other that grace by faith without works and you have a defacto mission field.

Sadly, some (I'll pick on Chuck Colson) have said that we should not try to "proselytize" catholics. AND I AGREE! We shouldn't try to get them to join OUR church. (That's what a proselyte does)

We should evangelize catholics, just like we do Mormons and Muslims, Buddhists and Baptists!

They are NOT our enemy; they are our mission field.

    Warm Christian greetings!

I was raised an RC and was saved at 16.

Although some RCs are genuinely saved, the vast majority are not because they are either only RCs by name and don't have any interest in spritual things or because they are putting their trust in Christ plus a host of other things rather than in Christ alone for salvation.

As an open air evangelist I sometimes come into contact with them and, not only are most unsaved, but they can get cross very quickly when you ask them if they are "saved" and have a certainty of Heaven.

    Kind regards

Do others have first-hand experience with Roman Catholics? I'd love to hear examples of the need for sharing the TRUTH with those dear folk.

I believe Christ said in the "great commission" to preach it to EVERYONE! My aunt is marrying a Catholic either this next summer or next, depending on when Rome actually annuls his first marriage and hers (she is Baptist Missionary Association), and I believe though he is religious and gives a testimony of salvation, it is a works based salvation. WE need to make sure WE properly present the Gospel of Jesus Christ whether to Roman Catholics, Baptists, Jews, or Palestinians. It's not just a request from Christ it was a command.

I was Catholic, and I'm glad someone saw me as a mission field!

For all the years I was Catholic and going to Catholic School, and alter boy, and even started making plans for the priesthood, and through all of this, NEVER HEARD OF SALVATION BY GRACE
Only, pray to Mary, give my money to the church, be good, go to confession, pray to Mary...so on and so on. And then I might have a chance to go to Heaven, or if I just miss, I will go to Purgatory until I am punished enough for the sins of my life, then I get to go to Heaven.

Thank you Lord, for having someone preach the Gospel to every creature, even me! A mission field of one! :D

When I was 23 years old, I found a big box of books which someone was throwing away. I saved the whole box and discovered, among its contents, a Bible. I was Catholic at the time but had had some exposure to Lutherans because there was a youth group at the Lutheran church that I sometimes went to. I noticed some differences in what the two churches taught and figured this Bible might have the answer as to which was right.. I had, like most Catholics, never before read the Bible. I did not know where to start so I started at the beginning. I read all of Genesis and ½ of Exodus. Then I came to the Law and it became monotonous, so I skipped to the New Testament. I started in Matthew and read the whole thing. When I came to Mark I was surprised that it was just like Matthew (at least this is what I thought at the time). I skipped to Acts, which I loved reading and read the whole book in one night. The Epistles were hard to read so for about two or three months I read over and over Genesis, Matthew and Acts. Then I started to think to myself this not getting me very far I need to read the other books of the Bible. I looked at Romans and told myself, "too long." I did the same with 1 & 2 Corinthians. Then I came to Galatians and told myself, "Self, you can make it through this. It is short enough. I made it to Galatians 5. Here I noticed the contrast between the works of the flesh and the works of the Spirit. Then a light came on. I thought, "I need to do the works of the Spirit and not the deeds of the flesh." SO-O-O-O, I started out to do just that. I fell on my face the first day. I remember telling God, "Let's start over, and I will not do it again." But before I knew it I was doing it again. So I told God, "Let me try one more time." I was trying it one more time with God for about 6 months (I call this my dark months). I was sad. I was depressed. I knew I was going to hell, and no matter how hard I tried I could not do the deeds of the Spirit. I was reading Matthew again when I came to Matthew 19. This is talking about the rich young ruler, when he went away sad.

24b. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

This amazed the disciples. And they asked "Who then can be saved?"

"But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible;"(this is where I was. It was impossible for me) "but with God all things are possible. It is possible with God. God opened my eyes and heart so I could see. I could not do it, but God could. I asked the Lord to save me that night and to help me follow him. That was Father's Day 1983. About that time I ran into a young man named Mike Townsend. He took me under his wing and showed me things I never knew were in the the Bible. I believe it was God helping me to follow him. Now why did I tell you all of this? It was God's Word that he used to save me and bring me out of the Catholic Church. I have never known a ex-catholic who was saved apart from it. The Lord has used me to lead souls to him from the Catholic Church. You need to get them in the Word with you. Don't attack them and tell them how they are worshipping idols (even though they are). Befriend them. Tell them Jokes. Have them over for dinner. Take them out to lunch. But then keep bringing God's Word into the conversation. If you are talking about the War in the mid-east, tell them you can see why this is happening from the Bible. Talk about why God hates abortion. etc. etc. When the time is right, ask them to join you in a study of the Bible. If they don't want to at that time, don't get upset. If they have questions, answer them from the Bible. Lots of Catholics are religious and like religious things. Use the Bible to satisfy that craving. Always pray for them. And remember "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17 ) It never said Faith comes by winning arguments. [IMG]
