Does anyone have a problem with a Christian having a Confederate flag license plate on the front of his vehicle?

    I don't.

Of course, there are at least 5 different flags that can be flown to show respect for one's Southern heritage - the three different Confederate national flags, the well-known Confederate battle flag, and the unofficial flag of the Confederacy - the Bonnie Blue.

By the way, the Bonnie Blue flag is still embodied the Texas State flag - a lone star on a field of blue. [IMG]

I have problems with the KKK types flying the Confederate Naval Ensign. It's the one people typically think of as a "confederate" flag.

It was never used on land. Amazed. So would not advocate using it (except on your bass boat)

A square version was used sometimes, but never as a national flag (it was a battle flag).

We allow Blacks to celebrate their heritage by wearing African costumes. Irish wear Green on March 17th. AmerIndians dance in their war paint and eagle feathers.

So on all national holidays I fly my second national flag - what is truly the stars and bars (two bars of red and a center bar of white, with a blue field and white circle of stars).

The third flag had a totally white field, but was sometimes mistaken for a surrender flag. And the final flag was the same white with a vertical red bar - symbolizing dipping the flag in the blood of the slain.

I will never fly the bloody banner of the yankeescum Federales.

So, all these years I have been showing a naval flag in my workshop...Hmmmmmm this small flag was given to me by friends in Georgia. They never told me it was a naval flag.

    Cheers,

    Jim

The Confederate Naval Jack is a rectangular version of the Confederate Battle Flag, which was square in shape, and was flown on the bow of the ship. As was the custom of naval ships it was normally only flown when the ship was in port or entering or leaving a port. An earlier version of the Jack resembled the Bonnie Blue flag with the blue field, but had from seven to thirteen small stars in a circular pattern in the middle of the flag. The design shown above officially became "The Confederate Naval Jack" on May 26, 1863. In contemporary times, it has become the defining symbol of Southern heritage.

I thought the last line interesting.

    Cheers,

I have one question: How will that help to win people to Jesus?

About as much as showing the Stars and Stripes or having an Arkansas Razorback license plate.

But actually these things could be used as conversation pieces for those of us who are shy by nature.

gb, you never know, do you? If God can use a box of Cracker Jacks, He can use a flag too.

It represents a very embaressing time in our history, and a time of great division.

Yes, I do have a problem with an American showing this rebelious symbol!

Sorry, guess you'll just have to put up with it. :D

Besides, the Stars and Stripes are also a rebellious symbol. Remember the Revolutionary War? Do you have a problem with showing it, too?

Then you think we would be better off if the South had won, and that would have been our Natioal Flag?

You have a point, Ken. I was once told that if I, as an Englishman, celebrated the 4th of July with Americans, that would be an act of treason.

I never took it that seriously, but I guess he had a point, didn't he?

    Cheers,

    Jim

If you are a Canadian in Canada, and celebrating the American 4th of July, well then, that would be treasonous!

And which flag is that? The Stars and Stripes? By the way, I am still waiting for an answer to the question about "Black Republicans", a term that you have used in at least one post here. Did you know you were using a racially charged insult? Maybe you were joking with your remark quoted above, but I don't think it is funny, given what you have said about your strange interpretation of the Civil War era.

I am an American. I love my nation, and would gladly stand and fight for her.

I am also a Southerner, born and bred in the great state of Tennessee. I am proud to call myself a Confederate (although I do not agree with the slavery issue). I gladly uphold the Confedate flag as a symbol of my heritage.

Many would take the flying of Dixie as an issue of hate and malice. I can say that I see their point. But, as an American, I have the right to possess and fly a Confederate flag if I so choose. Some think it a slap in the face to AfroAmericans, but it is not (as far as I'm concerned). Our ancestors may have been guilty of many atrocities (of with slavery was one of the many), but that was our ancestors.

In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge. But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge. (Jeremiah 31:29-30)

We here today are no more accountable for the sins committed for our forefathers than our children will be for what we do ourselves. True, some use Dixie as a symbol of white supremecy and racial hatred, but that is not the only thing that it flies for. It is my heritage, it is part of who I am, and it is a piece of the fabric of America itself.

    Heritage, not hatred.

May we not stoop so low as to judge a man by the sins of his ancestors.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

Yes, we'uns in the South would be better off as we'uns would have much less socialism in our CSA national government than is in the current USA national government. The South has always stood against big government which is why the Yankees wanted so badly to crush the South in the 1860's and have continued to look down on Southerners and continue to attack us politically.

If the South had achieved its independence, the Stars and Stripes would still be your national flag as you are in New Jersey.

Also, for those who point to the use of the Confederate battle flag by groups such as the KKK, I believe the KKK also uses the Stars and Stripes and the Christian flag. So any problems one may have with the displaying of the Confederate battle flag he would also have to have toward the displaying of the Stars and Stripes and the Christian flag...if he wants to be consistent.

As meaningless as a fistful of Confederate 5's!! Can't do nothin' with that confederate money nor the flag-except maybe look at it and talk about what "might" have been!

Fly it if you want to--but the meaning behind the stars and bars was dealt with at Appomattox! The last flag that Lee waved in Grant's face was white!

Nowadays, you wave a white flag in front of me and I'll "cease fire"--but will be "cocked and locked" waiting on you to come out with hands over your head!

You wave the Stars and Bars--foreign flag--I still have the trigger mashed---sprayin' bullets until I see a white sheet on a pole!

Fly the Stars and Bars, if thats what you want--but you fly it lookin' backwards!! I can fly the Stars and Stripes looking in both directions!! Backwards and forward!! Get it?? And I live in the heart of Mississippi! God bless the USA! Long live the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines! I'll take a bullet for the Stars and Stripes! Can't really say that anymore about the Stars and Bars! Appomattox put a screechin' halt to that ideaology!

It has meaning to those of us who still care about limited, constitutional government, who think that the U.S. Constitution should actually be followed as the rule of law in this country, not some made up rulings by liberal judges who don't care what the constitution actually says.

It will always have meaning to those of us like that. You socialist, big government types will never understand as long as your political eyes are blinded by your thirst for power over other people.

I just joined this board and this is my first post. I am rather amazed that the results of the Civil War are still so heavily debated among Christians. I am from the south and my roots trace back to the south to at least 1760. Members of my family fought on both sides of the war. So what! I know this country ain't perfect but I thank God everyday that I live in the greatest country this world has ever known.
What happened 140 years ago is pretty much in the past now. It is time to move on. Let's make the present country better by getting involved in the political process. I am sure you all know a whole lot more about the war than I do but it will not change anything now. Look at the percentage of people that vote in local and state elections. Some are in the single digits. This is a much bigger, more current problem than the civil war.
I know some people think that if the south had won the war things would be just great now but you really have no way of knowing what would have happened. I do know the south has produced some mighty big liberal democrats that just love big government and socialistic programs. Who knows, if we had been a divided nation in 1941 we might be speaking German now. We know the French and british would be.

    Stars and Stripes for me!

Actually, contrary to what some think, it is not in the past and it is not time to move on.

The battle continues between big Leviathan government vs. limited constitutional government, between protectionism and free markets, between social control and personal liberty.

I submit that an honest, objective study of the causes of the War for Southern Independence show that if the CSA had freed the slaves within its borders at the moment of the CSA's formation, the Union would still have invaded the CSA. THE issue was not slavery, THE issue was big government vs. limited government. And the forces of Leviathan won and you can see the result - you worked until about July 11 this year to pay for all of federal, State, and local spending.

As long as freedom beats in at least one human heart, this struggle will never be in the past and it will never be time to move on.

Tanker, I have special certification in post-secondary education from the American Civil War Institute (part of Waxahatchie University, south of Dallas). I am not sharing that to lord over anyone or claim divine rightness to my arguments.

But the term "black Republicans" is NOT RACIAL. Black has always been equated with "evil". Rmember the wordless book song we learned in Sunday School - "My heart was black with sin until the Savior came in .. "

This was a common phrase used in the press and government to the radical agenda of the republicans (99.99% of which were WHITE males). It was a an insult to the strong federalism of the Republican hierarchy.

    Hope that clears this up.

BTW, today Black Republican would almost be an oxymoron, right? [IMG]
