How many of you work the polls for a side income?

Do you also work early voting?

No. I have never tried making money with polls.

I do have a side online job though. I transcribe audio files/podcasts and edit transcriptions for supplemental money. :)

I was wondering the same thing, what do you mean when you say work the polls? I don't know if I do or I don't. I do some online work but I also have a full time job that I work Monday-Friday. I do the online work in my spare time.

I believe this is in reference to voting polls. There is a small stipend available in certain localities for working at voting locations. It is a very small stipend, and obviously only available during elections.

I've never done it. There are a lot of issue at my local voting place with people getting impatient and upset. They've had to request police to come before and escort people from the building. Whatever stipend they get, it's not worth the headaches they deal with.

Yeah, I imagine to work in a place like that the weight of civic duty would have to outweigh reasonable comfort. What a shame...

I have a friend from New York City, who couldn't even mention the Republican Candidate without getting punched in the face. What she said wasn't even a pro-candidate statement. She said the police officer nearby told her she deserved it, and that people were going in pretending to be democratic then secretly voting republican... All of that is a shame...

My mom use to work every election. She always looked forward to it. She didn't make a whole lot of money but she enjoyed the work. She got to talk to a lot of different people and hear their options and thoughts on the election. She also got to meet a lot of the candidates which she liked. She has since passed away but very time an election comes up I think of her and how she always looked forward to them.

I don't think I've tried polling though but I've been in the online job market for some time and making some side income from it. In my city most polling agents are teachers on summer break and retirees. I think it's a great job and you can earn a lot from it, at the same time make some good friends. :)
