Signs

I did like the underlying messages about faith, but I had some problems with the ending of the movie.

I thought they borrowed a little too liberally from "Night of the Living Dead".

I have a hard time criticizing Shamalan.

After all, anything he does from now on will be compared with "Sixth Sense" and that's an awfully high standard to have to live up to.

It's kind of like a rookie pitcher throwing a perfect game his first time out and then throwing a no hitter and being booed.

 

I liked the movie, and I don't even like those types of movies! Although, after watching it the second or third time, a few weeks later a had a dream that implemented that movie! Talk about being freaky!

Shyamalan is my favorite director. He is a master storyteller.

I'm sorry all of you didn't like Unbreakable. It is one of my favorite movies. Maybe because I read a lot of comics when I was younger.

Signs was great also. It's style was very much like a Hitchcock movie to me. And he handled the underlying spiritual theme very well, a definate surprise from a mainstream Hollywood movie.

Hopefully, he'll be around for a while. Unbreakable is, after all, set up perfectly for a trilogy.

I loved Signs. I was a little disappointed that he showed us the aliens though. I thought it would have been a bit scarier to have never actually seen one. Still, a very scary movie considering it was done mostly with mood. (Is scary the right word? Thrilling? Suspenseful?) The spiritual twist was an unexpected part of the movie.

SS and Unbreakable were also good movies. Unfortunately, I read the ending of SS in an editorial rounding up the year’s political events before I saw the DVD.

I am just glad to see movies that do not have to be constant action and violence. Shyamalan actually takes the time to develop plot and characters. I know some people find it a bit boring but it is what I am looking for. I seem to remember a quote. I think it was by Shyamalan but it could have been merely about him. Anyhow, it said that Shyamalan takes B movie ideas and gives them A movie scripts and actors. If you think about it, Spielberg has been doing basically that for years.

 

I haven't seen this movie yet but...this summer, days before my son would be going back to college, a high school friend of his, got back into town from his summer job and had a few days before he had to be back at school also. They decided they would go to a movie, they picked "Signs". My son, his friend and even myself assumed this movie was about aliens, crop circles and all that jazz...nothing more. When my son return later that night, I asked how the movie was, he said it was really good but he didn't want to tell me too much because he knew I would enjoy this movie too. But Clay, his friend, didn't like it at all, in fact, he felt like he had been tricked. Clay is an atheist Seth, my son, just sat there laughing, that's when I realized the movie must have something to do with Christianity or God. I still haven't had time to watch the movie.

I really enjoyed it. I think the acting was great and it all came together just right.
