Silly Laws

    A little-known law which prohibits people dying while in the Houses of Parliament has been voted the UK's most ludicrous piece of legislation. Another law which states it is treason to use a postage stamp upside down was placed in second place by those polled by UKTV Gold.


    The most absurd international law was judged to be in the US state of Ohio, where it is illegal to get fish drunk.

    In NC, it is illegal to be a professional fortune teller. You may practice as an amature in a school or church.

    It is also illegal to sing off key. Yikes!

    You may not use an elephant to plow.

    You must pay taxes on illegal drugs. Actually, NC makes a lot of money enforcing this law.

    It is illegal for cats and dogs to fight in Charlotte.

    You may not drive your car through a cemetary for pleasure.

    You may not visit your deceased loved ones late at night.

    That one is not so silly. Income is income, and should be taxed. IIRC, Al Capone was arrested not on charges that were harder to prove related to his criminal activity, but on tax evasion for not paying taxes on his booze running operations.

    It's kind of silly because there is no real set amount they can charge taxes for. The police basically take any poperty of value connected to the person, especially cash. You cannot apply for a sales license to sell illegal drugs. Although technically it is legal to grow marijuana, you must get a license. Since there is no existing license to grow marijuana, it is illegal. Catch 22.

    My Texas History prof in junior high said that it was still in the Texas Constitution (which I believe is one of the longest and most chaotic state Constitutions... probably because it's been amended like 350 or 400 times since 1876 when it was established) that you could be arrested for not tying up your horse in the right manner outside the county courthouse.

    I would bet it's more times amended than that.

    We just voted for 16 amendments to it on Tuesday.
