Sims, anyone?

OK, I have to admit it...I'm hooked! I am a Sims addict.

While I have not bought The Sims 2, I am slowly acquiring the expansion packs for The Sims. So far, I have Livin' Large, Hot Date, and Unleashed. I am working on getting House Party, Superstar and Vacation, but have no intention of getting Making Magic .

I download a lot of stuff from livin-it-up.net, as well as The Sims website .

Am I the only one here who has a passion for controlling the lives of others?

Hot Date sounds bad, but it isn't as bad as what we thought. True, it gives the options for "steamier" interactions, but it also expands the Sims "universe".

My wife, my daughter, and I all have several families on ours (PC version). We use a lot of downloaded add-ins (and a few "hacked" items). The only cheat we have used is "rosebud"...and we usually go to about $3 million.

Wish it were that simple in real life...

My daughter thinks that Urbz looks like fun...but, since we don't have a console system, she's outa luck.

My wife is trying a different strategy. She started with a married couple, jacked up their funds with the "rosebud" cheat, and then had them study (using a "hacked" bookcase) to raise their skills to max. Right now she is working on developing their friend network. After she has enough friends, she plans on them getting jobs and zooming to the top!

Here's one to try, if you have Livin' Large:

Make a sim, but give him/her no personality. Yes, NONE.

Start the game, and buy the chemistry lab. Have him/her use it. If the result is anything besides the yellow concoction, sell the set and buy another one.

When he/she finally gets a yellow result, drink it. Yellow completely reverses the personality.

So, now you'll have a sim with maximum stats in every personality trait!

Yes, we have Unleashed. I bought it because it expands the game area, but my daughter went nuts over the pets.

I had a GameCube...for about three days. My name was drawn for it at the company Christmas party on a Friday. Since we don't have/do TV, I didn't need it. I mentioned that I'd take $50 for it, and had it sold before we left. The lady brought me the money Monday at work. She gave it to her oldest daughter for Christmas, from her dad (who is in Iraq).

We use our computer like a game console, in a way. Besides the Sims, we play a lot of adventure/puzzle type games. We have played and beaten all the Nancy Drew mysteries so far, as well as Myst, Riven, Exile, Mysterious Journey (1 & 2), Syberia, Riddle of the Sphinx, The Omega Stone...well, you get the idea.

Our current favorite is called Insaniqaurium. You can download a demo on download.com. I bought the full version for my wife, and gave it to her for our anniversary.

Myst is pretty old. The version I have (Myst Masterpiece...same game with a few extras) requires PII (133MHz or better, 32MB RAM, 30MB available on hard drive, 4x CD-ROM, 640 x 480 display w/24 bit color or better, DirectX 601 or better.

Riven is pretty much the same, except for 16MB RAM, 75MB on hard drive.

Exile requires 233MHz processor, 64MB RAM, 200MB on hard drive, 4x CD-ROM, 640 x 480 display, DirectX 8.0 or better, 8MB Video Memory w/32 bit color.

Myst and Riven are awesome. Didn't care for Exile as much, as it was done by a different company/software team. I haven't bought the newest ones in the Myst series yet, but I want to.
