Singspiration at church tonight, singing 4-part a cappella, and only tunes that were first "folk" music of the USA - not music written per se for the hymn. Some wonderful stuff!

    Come Thou Fount
    What Wondrous Love is This?
Psalm 42 (The River is Deep)
    How Firm a Foundation
    Amazing Grace
O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus
When I Can Read My Title Clear
Come Ye Sinners, Poor and Needy
    There is a Fountain
    O, How I love Jesus

As we have time, we will also sing some songs that began as folk tunes in foreign lands:

    How Great Thou Art
    Day by Day
    Children of the Heavenly Father
    from Scandinavia

    Immoratal, Invisible God only Wise
    Morning Has Broken
    Be Thou my Vision
    from Wales/Ireland

I have Decided to Follow Jesus from India

Search Me, O God from New Zealand

I Lay my Sins on Jesus from Greece

    Fairest Lord Jesus
Praise the Savior Ye Who know Him
    from Germany

Come Christians, Join to Sing from Spain

And a couple ancient folk songs from the Latin
    Of the Father's Love Begotten
    O Sacred Head Now Wounded

    Wow Dr. Bob,

Sounds like you guys had a great evening of worship... wish I could have been a part.

Thanks for the origin lesson. It was definitely interesting to me. Just my humble opinion. [IMG]
