Have you ever noticed what happens when a new person joins a church? Usually one of two things.

First there is the person who bids their time. Looks for opportunities to get acquainted and slowly becomes part of the body.

Then there is the one who swoops in, is readily accepted, and takes their place in the body quickly.

There is much success in the first method and varying degrees of it with the second.

That being said, I'm more inclined to be like the latter rather than the former. Probably this is true of most Pastor-types. But I have poked around on the board here for some time and thought now was a good opportunity to join.

I have been in ministry for 18 years, I'm married with 8 children and have been pastoring for the first time in the last 5 years.

I look forward to the fellowship and information gained through this site.

Hello Pastor Trent,

A great BIG welcome to the BB from the great state of Illinois!

Come on down to the COMMON GROUND COFFEE HOUSE in "All Other Discussions", where as Christians, we are all on common ground...

It is a great place to kick back, relax, and get to know each other. And we have FREE food and beverages!

Blessings,
§ue :)

(Yawn) Welcome to the BB.

Time for me to hit the hay. Was not feeling good all night.

Thanks for taking the time to say hello despite your rough night. And may the Lord give you a rest of peace.

Welcome aboard Pastor Trent. I notice you are with the Free-will arm. Interesting discussions may ensue later on.

Ah, my friend, here comes the qualifier.

What we have is an historic moniker....not an honest one.

When Brother Ben Randall

was used to begin the Freewill Baptist movement in this region he could not have seen that day in 1911 when the "Northern Baptist" swallowed it whole.

The aforementioned "Northern Baptist" of course became the "American Baptist"

. That day in 1911 when the congregation in West Buxton, Maine rejoiced in the decision, would most likely have felt undone had they been able to see the day in 1978 when their descendants voted to leave the ABC and stake their own ground in a lower-case "i" independent kind-of-way.

Thus, the conversations may ensue but I'm afraid I will do a poor job holding on to the denominational baton

hot linking here is possible but is it advisable? hmmmmm:tonofbricks:

You notice that Rippon looked to see if you were "reformed" or Freewill the first thing.

His handle is not "Rip" for nothing................... Spell it slow and its, Rip.....on......you..........:)

BB, be nice. I always look on the personal profile on new posters.I look at their age(if given),the area they reside, their confession etc. It's not a matter of seeing if they are Reformed or not. However, being a member or minister of a Free-will congregation sort of stood out prominently. So I brought it up. Do you think I was being confrontational about it?I certainly didn't intend to be.This is not a debate thread, it's welcoming thread.

I'm not 'ripping' anyone up here. If anyone named "Thrasher" comes on board as a poster we will have to see if he/she lives up to that moniker.

Besides,'Rip' is a shortened form of John Rippon. Please don't confuse a new poster by indicating that I am caustic and things like that.Merely putting a smiley face to your remarks doesn't quite cut it.

Its Sunday morning Rippon and no, I don't think you were being confrontational. I was just trying to be humorous, and seem to have made a "poor" attempt at it. I think you present your beliefs very good, with scriptual support for all you believe. I think you do a really good job at it.

We are lucky to have you on BB, so as to have both sides of these issues, and I know you will really be very nice to this new member. You do a much better job at it, than I do.

Please just laugh at what I posted and lets have a good day..........:)

Welcome to the BB, Pastor Trent. I tend to join a church too quickly and often regret it. I never had that problem in Michigan, but I don't particularly like these southern Baptist churches as well as I did the ones in Michigan.
