So WHAT Theological Systems Did Christians Beleiev BEFORE Cal/Arm was established?

before either Arminian or calvinistic systems for Theology came about...

WHAT were the systems believers actually taught/believed in, and why not do those same systems today?

or was it strict JUST Roman catholic/Greek othodox until reformation era?
