    The correct word is "savor" which means purity in efficaciousness.

    the term is used primarilly in the way to preserve meat with salt.

    Salt that has been used like this becomes contaminated with blood and other germs. This causes the taste to be effected adversley. One who partakes of tainted meat due to the use of corrupted salt has an unpleasant reaction to the taste. This speaks volumes about the Christian becoming infected with worldliness and becoming of no effect upon a lost and dying world due to an unpleasant taste.
