Software, Windows Vista, and Win 7

    Some of my old CDRoms (commentary sets, to beat all), will not work with the 64 bit of Vista premium. Will this be corrected with Windows 7? Can I do anything NOW to make them shake hands?

    Go to the publishers site and see if they have updates. Email them if you don't find anything they may not have it on their site yet.

    64 is a little new to a lot of the slower companies from my experience.

    List the programs and others might have the fix. I've worked through some 64 bit problems.

    As to will win7 help. WHO WOULD KNOW :smilewinkgrin:

    I do have an old program for my security system that will absolutely not run in Vista 64 but runs fine on 32 bit win7, holding my breath for win 7 64 when I get it.

    You might find the .exe file for the program, right click and choose properties and play with the run as win xp setting and the run as administrator buttons.

    Win7 64-bit can run 32-bit programs just fine, but i don't know about anything smaller. If your CPU has virtualization support you can install XP inside of Se7en (the higher end distros, not the base one or two). You would have to check with Intel or AMD to see if your CPU can do it or not.

    You can also try running older programs in compatibility mode [Link].

    Incidentally, I have been running Win7 for a while now (and have the RTM sitting next to me but haven't formatted and installed yet... have a MS MVP as a friend has its advantages) and love it. I had moved completely to Vista beforehand (again a gift from my MVP buddy) and can say that Se7en is way better than Vista and even beats out XP.

    I keep hearing that about 7. I can't wait to get it for my new laptop. If I could go from XP to 7, I'd punt Vista.

    Most of the software so far that won't run is some AGES software (Spurgeon Collection) and from Nelson (Word Commentaries and Expositor's). I have the hardbound Expositor's so that's no big loss, but I went entirely CDROM with Word due to limited shelf space.

    All of the Ages software I've seen uses .pdf format, if nothing else stick the cd in and snoop around and find the .pdf files and copy them to your hard drive. Then find the one you want and double click it, it should open in adobe reader.

    Contact Ages and they should be able to help you.
