Somalia declares emergency over locust swarms

Somalia has declared a national emergency as large swarms of locusts spread across east Africa.

The country's Ministry of Agriculture said the insects, which consume large amounts of vegetation, posed "a major threat to Somalia's fragile food security situation".

There are fears that the situation may not be brought under control before the harvest begins in April.

The UN says the swarms are the largest in Somalia and Ethiopia in 25 years.

Meanwhile, neighboring Kenya has not seen a locust threat as severe in 70 years, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

However, Somalia is the first country in the region to declare an emergency over the infestation.

Somalia's unstable security situation means that planes cannot be used to spray insecticide from the air.

I read that Somalia may have significant amount of off shore oil. They are inviting the oil majors to come in and drill for it. Saudi Arabia is right next door, so this may be true. Preliminary survey suggest this.

I should care but I don't. Maybe the Palestinians will go help them. Naw, Islam teaches kismet. Allah don't care.

Until those rascals stop eating the green tree start sting men, were still not quite there yet
You know, I've read this several times, tried to solve it like a puzzle, but the only sense I could make out of it is that maybe you are saying is referring to the end times and that if the locus behavior isn't all about stinging people they aren't the right kind of locus and that that that time is not here yet? How'd I do?

after a study of Joel
locust are not typically stinging type insects unless perhaps they are divinely equipped.
swarming locust are rare and must go through 4 phases to swarm which obviously theses have.

the big concern is the devastation to the flaura and fauna of a region denuding the countryside of harvest crops for that growing season - famine.

Yeah they can use that oil revenue to pay the world back for the garbage their pirates have pulled for the last 30 years.
