    Elections Observations
    by Chuck Baldwin
    November 10, 2006

The elections of last Tuesday surprised no one. Most people saw the handwriting on the wall for a Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives. As for the Senate, it is almost impossible to tell the difference between Democrats and Republicans, so who controls the gavel is of little consequence.

As I said before in this column, the GOP deserved to lose this election. Under President George W. Bush, the Republican Party has become little more than a carbon copy of the Democratic Party. Therefore, voters concluded, "Why settle for phonies when one can have the genuine article?"

As the Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, president of Human Life International, said, "If the Republican Party truly wants to know why they lost, they need only look in the mirror. The most vulnerable seats in both houses were those held by politicians who had abandoned the pro-life and the pro-marriage principles that first brought them to power."

And remarkably, the Christian right took notice, and said "we aren't going to be taken for granted any more."

So now the GOP has a choice to make. Should be interesting to see who the next presidential nominee will be. If it's Rudy G. or McCain, they're still trying to be democrat lite. If they go to the right, they got the message.

I'm betting they haven't gotten the message.

They never really believed in the "message" in the first place. It was a grab for power, just like the Dems.

"There is not a dimes bit of difference between a Republican and a Democrat."

    Who said that?

Lou Dobbs from CNN said something similar. Only his was posied(sp) as a question.

I don't believe there is a dimes difference between the two though. That is why we really should start NOW to find a good 3rd party to support in 2008.

Wow I agree with all of you.

IT will be a RINO rudy or more likely McCain. They dont need to find somebody conservative because conservatives will hold their nose and vote against Hillary. They can continue to drift left without consiquence.

I know your thoughts about that Ken but I would much rather have a RINO lefist like McCain then a Marxist like Hillary. And there is not a third party that does not have problems themselfs. Nobody the RINOs or the third parties will excite conservatives into getting out to vote. And if there is a pretty good third party canadate his votes will come out of the RINOs total setting us up for a Hillary win. :BangHead:

The troubles with starting a third party are manifold. The biggest trouble IMO is that the American people are generally soft, lazy and self centered. They do not care one whit what happens in the next generation or so as long as they have their bowl of gruel and TV and three car garage. Think I over exagerate? example: the Rule of Law. MOST Americans could care less about the Rule of Law. How do I know this? Test it yourself. Drive the speed limit at all times, on the highway, freeway, residential streets, and school zones. And then watch the people around you. I live 22 miles by freeway from my church, my family and going to and from different work sites. Everyday. Even in construction zones where there are signs warning of triple fines for violating the speed limit there, people STILL drive at least 80 MPH thru there. And I don't just mean the teenagers. Even little geriatric ladies....ZOOOOOOOOM!
No regard whatsoever for other people, themselves or the bassic Rule of Law.

This country is IN the trash can folks. But most just won't admit it. Until they admit it, there will be nothing ANYBODY but GOD can do about it.

I concur, but I hope you're wrong and we can find a Bible believing gun toting conservative man of one wife. But they don't seem to run for office.

IMHO: speed limits are not really designed to be obeyed. They are suggestions: applying to snowy, icy, foggy conditions only. :saint: :godisgood:

Agreed. And Christians put "Americanism" (never mind how negative our nation has become) above God.

Bush's concession of principles speech on Wednesday proves that. I actually agree with you here.

He said a GOOD third party. So far, there is none. Our best bet for principle is to write in a candidates name, like Republican Tom Tancredo and Jim Holt.

    Sorry: I missed this post.

I have always been intrigued by the moniker "RINO," even when I was a hard-core in-your-face Dittohead Conservative. I always perceived this as a means to be devisive, and in my chapter of the College Republicans it was expressly prohibited to refer to someone as a "RINO."

Exactly what defines a Republican that would make a more progressive-minded member of the GOP a "RINO?"

Just asking a question, not trying to pick a fight, Dee Jay.

    Regards,
    BiR

In the past the Republicans were a party of conservatives. They were on the right politicly on a left right scale.

A RINO would be a Republican who has abandoned conservative ideas that were traditionaly held by the Republican party. Ideas like small goverment, less taxes, right to life.

Unfortanently most of the people in the party are abandoning conservative ideas. At least alot of the ideas. Like GWBs spending habbits, nobody in their right mind could say GWB is for small goverment.

So I guess what I am saying is the name RINO is reserved for the Republicans that have abandoned conservative ideas faster and farther then their peers.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RINO

As to your Young Republicans meeting. I bet they did forbid the term RINO. After all their allegance is to the Grand Old Party no matter where the party takes them.

Me and most common Republicans have allegance to conservative ideas. We currently have no party that reprisents us and are looking for another party or reform in the GOP.
