    4. Calvinists believe in Irresistible Grace. That does not mean that the elect never resist grace, but that eventually all the elect will come to Christ and none will be lost.

Do non-calvinists believe that Christ will fail to save some of the elect?

    Has Christ failed in anything?

If Yes, then it is possible that He could fail to save some of the elect.

If No, you have no reason for concern!

I don't think you can prove this today. We will know for sure when we get to heaven. It sure seems like many resisted the HS in the Bible and also today as I watch people fighting the HS because they do not want to give up their wants. They do not want to surrender to God as He deserves but count themselves as more important then God. Give up thier pleasures of life for themselves if you will.

TCassidy, here you go again, ask another stupid question. As if anti/non Clavinists are a bunch of liberals who believe in the nonsense that you ask about. CHRIST NEVER FAILS. Irresistible Grace, means that the grace of the Holy Spirit on an individual can be resisted. In other words, a person can say no to accepting the Gospel, as clearly taught in Scripture. Read 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12, and you might just learn something. See also Acts 13:45, what the Jews did when Paul was preaching the Gospel to them, how they were "resisting" the Gospel, and therefore the working of the Holy Spirit: "But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy; and contradicting and blaspheming, they opposed the things spoken by Paul", and then Paul tells them, "Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, "It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles" (verse 46) Do you read where these Jews "judged themselves unworthy of eternal life"? God did not thus judge them, or else he would not have had Paul and Barnabas preach to them in the first place.

icthus- you forgot what tcassidy had reminded you of: Irresistable grace doesn't mean the Holy Spirit can't be resisted- but that ultimately the elect will not be able to resist their final salvation. I like the way spurgeon put it:

“You deny, then,” says one, “the free-will of man?” Who says that? I never denied it; on the contrary, I insist upon it more than most men. There is no opposition between the doctrine of irresistible grace and the fact of the free agency of man. “How,” say you, “if man be thus irresistibly carried as by storm, how can he be free?” Bethink thyself, man, and answer for thyself. Didst thou never resist an argument for a time, till at last another reason was given, and then another, and thou couldst not but yield to the overwhelming arguments? Didst thou then prove that thou hadst no reason of thine own? Nay, it proved thou hadst a reason, and therefore could be mastered by arguments fitted to thy reason.

What do you understand John 18:9 to be saying? "That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none."

And what do you understand Philippians 1:6 to be saying? "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."
Absolutely! No doubt about it! We all resist the Holy Spirit at some time in our lives. Even Calvinists! (Even Particular Baptists! :D )

But will Christ fail to save any of the elect? I don't think so. Christ will save all the elect (all that believe). He won't fail any of them (us). [IMG]

Icthus, I will not reply to any of your posts until you lose the hateful spirit and the unchristlike attitude. When you decide to be a gentleman instead of a manner-less miscreant I will again respond to your posts.
