The advance of AB 2943, known as the "no-spanking" bill, which is sponsored by Democrat California Assemblywoman Sally Lieber, has been halted for now and placed in a "suspense file" status as of Thursday's meeting of the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

We have a whole generation of no spanking time out kids, they are worse then ever, they've been taught theres no consequences for bad behaviors, to the point that now they don't care what they do.

Nothing wrong with banning spanking with implements such as spoon or handle.

The butt is fleshy precisely because it is the "area of discipline", but hitting our kids with hard objects is just not right.

Now, if they include belts, then they would have to define which belt is not to be used.

I remember getting whacked by an uncle once, just one time, with his army web belt. I couldn't walk for a whole week, and his eyes would tear up every time he came home and saw me coming up to greet him. He never did it again...... with his web belt, I mean.

I disciplined my kids with my regular belt.
Gave them two or three solid "from up there" whacks.

They knew once I glanced at the wall where my belt was hung on a hook, they were about to get into big trouble.

I have a nephew who wasn't spanked or disciplined in any way. The last I heard he was in prison. I've got two other nephews and three half-brothers who were also in prison. We're a very disfunctional (sp?( family.

I was spanked (beaten actually) and turned out reasonably normal with no police record. Actually, I was beaten into submission. Simple spanking is proper and right--beating is not.

There is nothing wrong with the "board of education" being applied to the rear end. And, as I recall, it was, in most cases made of oak or heart pine.

California is a police state, criminalizing folks who are not criminals. This is just another way to criminalize people to obtain the $$$.
We have child abuse laws in place, this is not needed.

I was hit with wooden spoons, switches, belts, sticks, everything. I could NEVER return the favor on my daughter, because I believe the anger & lack of any follow-up to my beatings led to me being angry, and wasting a lot of years due to alcohol & drug abuse..

I have spanked my daughter by giving her one swat on the butt, three times in her whole life. (I wanted to choke her to death a few weeks ago, but that's another story) All three times, the bad behavior stopped. So there was no reason, IMO, to continue the spankings.

    Good for you Curtis.

Just curious but did you feel comfortable with your father babysitting your daughter?

She is lucky to have you :1_grouphug:

Every time the Arnold and his wife are on those commercials inviting me to come to California I laugh. And, if I do, then Arnold and his wife tell me I won't want to leave. Then I really laugh. You know? I can wipe myself just fine. I don't need the nanny state of California to do it for me. Who in their right mind would want to live in such an over regulated state. In California I am incompetent. I can't raise my children correctly. I can't use my land as I see fit. I must forfeit massive amounts of my income to the California government for income redistribution. I must be protected from chemicals that are only considered dangerous in California. "This chemical has been determined to cause cancer in the state of California." As long as I don't use that product in California I should be safe. I plan to keep it that way.

I've repeatedly spanked only 2 of our kids. most required 2-5 spankings in their whole lives, and one had 1 or 2 spankings and 1 I don't think I ever spanked. I always used my hand, but my wife had to use whatever implement came to hand.

My point is that children are different and require different parenting.

To allow the govt. further intrusion into this family matter will be tragic, as witnessed above by out of control children, several times. Ca. leads again...

Your right about that. We have 2 boys, they were like night and day growing up. Both did require spankings though.

Yes, it's getting worse here. Imo, it's all about the money. Real criminals are let loose yet the folks with money are prosecuted for little things. The Drug war is causing the jails to be overcrowded so the violent criminals who should be in jail are not.

Camera's are being installed at intersections to catch people who run red lights. They are also being installed at stop signs.

I mainly ride on the road now, the trails are pretty crowded. Also ride late at night when the people are inside to avoid the traffic. We will need to move up the hill further to avoid all of the people. The immigrants are starting to come into our town more, but we need them to work minimum wage jobs as most people here are upper class, College educated folks. Actually, I would like to move to a different Country where people are more laid back but our family is here and some are aging.

I can't complain, in my corner of the world, it's pretty nice.

Yet Big Brother is rapidly taking over our lives.

You wouldn't want to live here.

One of the complaints in society is that if your rich you get off for commiting crimes, why would anyone complain when people who commit a crime is prosecuted for it, even if they are rich. Sounds like lots wrong in Cal. but convicting people who commit a crime isn't wrong.
