How is obeying God legalism?Legalism just sucks.
Well as far as I know a call to obedience to the government is a NT teaching, while I'm sure it is there in the OT as well, it is certainly taught in the NT, so I'm not sure how this statement holds any water in your defense? Why anyone would want to live under the law given 15 centuries before Christ, given the Grace we are now under, simply amazes me.
I agree with some of your points Tim, but I don't see how some of these things would motivate a person to do the right thing, because the bottom line of what you have said is that I will lose some things I never had, I'll take a tongue lashing and I'll watch some stuff being burned. But as soon as that is all over and done with I get to enjoy the splendor of heaven as much as the next guy.I think if a person is Saved, the Holy Spirit will prick his heart continually while he is sinning... but some people are just hard headed, and it takes longer....
And the ramifications....
Testimony lost when caught
Fines....
Loss of rewards in Heaven.
Maybe even a shortened life here...
No peace because they are out of God's will.
the chastisement of God.
The chewing out they will get on the day of judgement.
Going into eternity without any treasures that we are supposed to be laying up.
Watching all their useless works burn up.
Yes, there are ramifications to sin....
And we had better take them seriously...
Unfortuantely that just doesn't always hold true. We see many a Christian that fall away and go back to the world for one reason or another. Sadly instead of discipling that person or coming along side that person we write them off as well they were never saved in the first place, and they just fall through the crack. The positives of following Christ and hating sin is a wonderful relationship with the Creator of this world that once you experience it, you will not want anything else the world has to offer....
While I agree whole heartedly with your statement, I think the key word phrase is supposed to. Some would disagree and say Christians will love God and will represent His ways to the world. The second thing is we are supposed to love God enough to want to represent His ways to the world.

Don't drive on a Texas toll road thenPersonal observation is that people drive more politely and carefully on toll roads.
Problem is though that very few want "true" discipleship these days. The message of the gospel has been so distorted that people will not stand for "true" discipleship anymore because too many "Christian" leaders are telling them that they don't have too. You know the song tells us that we are all friends of God irregardless of what we do, and another song tells us that we can come just as we are to worship. The answer is as he and others said, start discipling each other!
It may have been you I fired off a couple rounds at the other day.I almost NEVER go the speed limit when driving. Its always that way, and by choice.
I usually go 5 to 10 mph UNDER the speed limit.
I'm serious. I am one of those drivers who drive the fast one crazy. Even on the interstate I'm usually going about 55-60.
Creeping along,
Mike
