OK folks...after spending TOO MUCH time in the Translations/Bible Versions Forum,I decided it is time to start a discussion that might actually yield some conversation and ideas that have some hope of real EDIFICATION for all of us!
My main question is this....How do we as believers and disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ discern whatever spiritual gifts He has bestowed on each of us....AND....make best use of them in our daily lives and in our church families?
I'm after any ideas any of you may have as well as any scriptural direction on how to discern these gifts. The only rule I'll ask that you try to observe is that this is NOT a discussion on TONGUES or HEALING or anything that approaches Charismania of the modern sort.Tongues and Healing is fodder for another thread.
Okay ya'll....let the edification begin!!! [IMG]

What? No tongues?? (Praise the Lord)

I find that often it is easier to discern someone ELSES'S gifts than our own. If someone is very concerned about money, will often give a physical item than a check, etc, they might have the gift of giving.

Generosity is NOT the key. Concern over HOW money is spent and used often gives it away.

Where I attend chuch we use a simple questionare to help individuals identify where their strengths are. It can be found on-line at:

    SPIRITUAL GIFTS TEST

While not perfect, it is helpful in hiring and placement of willing servants of Christ.

OK, LadyEagle, you convinced me! ;)

My dominant gift is Teaching (17)...And that's what I do. I just wish I was a little better at it. [IMG]

My second dominant gift is Exhortation (14). I also got a 14 on Pastor/Shepherd and Administration. I guess I'll work on these when I get the teaching gig down pat. Unless these have ceased! [IMG]

I've taken these before, and every time it gives number one as prophecy and number two as evangelism.
    GIVING is always almost last..EKE
It's gotta be pretty accurate. My neighbors have all had the pleasure of standing in a group and listening to me preach...uhhh, not preach... whatever it's called when girls do it! Witness with an attitude? Yeah, that'll work. [IMG]

[IMG] Deacon..Thanks for sending us that great resource...mine turned up to be Administration/Exhortation and judging from what I read it was very revealing and accurate.I have wondered for YEARS how to identify these gifts and that was a real help!

I think the answer is a lot simpler than taking a test. Here it is: Find something you like to do that you can do that helps the body and do it. Be willing to be stretched; you might find you like something you don't know about yet. But spiritual gifts are closely related to desires and abilities.

Amen PL - the test is interesting, but I think we know our gifts of we are exercising them.

Exercising is a gift? If so, I am lacking that one for certain sure! [IMG]
