    From the thread on Fantasy it was claimed that Star Wars teaches false and eastern religious beliefs.

    I have heard others say that it is NOT teaching religion or anti-christian beliefs.

    So. What do you say. And more importantly, WHY?

    According to Steven Hart at Salon, the mythological Campbell connection was stumbled into after the fact and is bogus.

    Dear Ones in Christ;

    I see more of eastern mysticism, then any resemblence to Christianity, in the Star Wars spirituality. In SW one sees the presentation of the light and the dark side of the force, which is a form of energy throughout the universe. One can harness the "force" for power and great deeds.

    In the martial arts one is taught that there is a Yin/Yang,(the two-sided white and black circle, with the white and black halves entertwined), a force of balance between positive and negative energy running throughout all of nature. This is called Chi.

    Acupuncture seeks to balance the Chi by placing the needles into predetermined points and bringing the yin/yang back into balance.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    http://www.pain-relief-info.com/acupuncture.html

    To understand the action of Tao here in our world, teachers studied its manifestations through the dynamics of our planet. They noticed that energy could be divided into two opposites - yin and yang. These are antagonistic and yet, at the same time, complementary. I envisage the interplay of these two forces, positive yang and negative yin, creating a current as if the planet is a giant electric generator. We can see the ebb and flow of these two forms of energy in the seasons. Midsummer is full yang while mid-winter is extreme yin.

    This current is called Qi (pronounced 'chee'). Although we take it for granted we are constantly immersed within Qi and Qi flows through us constantly. When yin and yang are balanced we feel well; when imbalanced we experience dis-ease. There is no equivalent English word for Qi. I call it bioelectrical energy. Our bodies run on this energy and it is our direct link to the cosmic energy that created us.

    The ancient Chinese believed this energy flows along certain pathways, channels or meridians. This flow of energy can be controlled at certain points along the channels. A voltage difference over these points can be detected by using an electrical point finder. This supports the bioelectrical theory.

    The acupuncturist affects the flow of Qi by inserting a needle into a strategic channel. His/her skill establishes exactly what the energy imbalance is and which channels should be used. The main channels run through a specific organ after which they are named and they can influence that organ.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    One harnesses the power of chi, in the martial arts, to focus ones power, to enhance ones power and endurance. IMHO Star Wars takes its theology from the eastern religions.

    Joseph and all, Star Wars has a GREAT DEAL of theology in it! What appears to be evil is 'really' good; the Force that 'may be with you' is definitely NOT the Christian God! Life forms of different varieties abound, leaving humans NOT created uniquely in the image of God. All depends on man's ability to get himself out of scrapes, and the concept of sin is entirely absent.

    When something leads one away from Christ rather than to Him, it is fair game to call it involved with theology.

    It is FICTION!!!!!!!!!

    Are you people for real? It is not a religion, it has no theology, and it isn't even real. Can you people not figure that out?

    Maybe I just don't understand since I don't read the constellations and look to astrology to find the Gospel... :rolleyes:

    Joseph, fiction influences people. It's as simple as that. Theology comes in all manner of forms, not just real life. People often try to escape real life by going into fiction. People read about the movie stars because that also feeds their fantasies. It's important to understand how influential these things can be. Take a look at the massive "trekkie" clubs that treat Star Wars as a kind of reality!

    If we cannot understand people do this, and then end up thinking like this, then we cannot possibly know how to connect with them in order to present the true Gospel of Christ.

    And, Joseph, that was not necessary to denigrate the concept that the ancient story of the Gospel was quite evident in the constellations long before Christ came to earth. In Hebrews 1 we are told that "In the past, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways..." and both Abraham and Isaiah testify that the stars had something to say, as does David, in the Psalms.

    For a study on this that was done by four of us, the following might be interesting. Today, we have Christ and this supercedes any other message or need for understanding outside of our knowledge of Him -- but it was not always so:

    So I do thank you for giving me a chance to share this article once again for those who might think that God somehow 'forgot' several thousand years' worth of people. He didn't. He is truly not willing that one should perish. The story of the Plan and Promise was there for all humans all along.

    And they didn't even have Star Wars to drag them away from it! Or the twisting and distortion of modern astrology to corrupt it. There probably have always been mockers, though.

    I have to agree with Joseph. It's fiction. If anyone starts trying to use the "force" because they read the books or saw the movie, well they need help. They have no concept of reality.

    Helen, you are way out of line here. :mad: I am highly offended that you would call Star Wars fans "trekkies". [IMG] We are definitely NOT "trekkies". Oh, the humanity...

    The Gospel of God has always been the same. Let me know when you have finally read that article instead of continually mocking it.

    totally agree! But people turn and worship so many things. When caught up in the cycle of it...maybe there are thoses that get too rapped up in it.

    But for real, What is the theology of it?

    Maybe the question should not be what is wrong with Star Wars, but what is right about it? Anything in there promoting the Kingdom of God and His righteousness?

    Okay, I've been silent on the issue long enough.
    The Gospel is in the stars. I've never denied that in any of my posts, but I'm glad God did not leave me to discern it from the stars. Those that He did leave to discern it from the stars are lost.

    The Gospel is in nature: doth not even nature itself teach you?

    But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:

    Most folks who deny GIS will readily agree that the Gospel is also in nature, but only if we leave the terms vague. The moment one begins to get specific, he, or in this case she, finds himself the object of ridicule and scorn.

    Much like one does when he begins to get specific about modest apparel ;) . It's okay to be vague about modesty, but the moment one begins to draw the line between modesty and immodesty--yeeeowww!
