SpyBot caused Runner Error

    I was watching ScreenSavers tonight and downloaded Spybot on their recommendation.

    As soon as I rebooted, I got Runner Error: A runner file name 00469983.EXE-05F7BB5F.pf lacks a '-' the app. id separator.

    Windows says the .pf file is a file for faster loading.

    Any idea?
    I have NO idea how to fix this, wrote SpyBot and their tech said he's stumped!

    Have you tried un-installing Spybot and rebooting? Does the error still come up?

    If not, all well and good. If it does, try installing the program again (sounds like one of the files got corrupted, or corrupted a Windows file).

    HI Don, I uninstalled and rebooted and the error is still there. It's a .pf file. I searched files and folders and came up with 00469983.EXE-05F7BB5F.pf It's in the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder.

    It says: Microsoft Windows Prefetch File: Windows uses this file internally to store information necessary to start applications faster

    It also shows the file was modified when I was downloading Spybot.

    Everything seems to work but this is a brand new Windows XP HP computer and I've never had one minutes trouble before downloading Spybot. I wrote the tech at Spybot and he has no idea. I'm wondering if I can just find and delete that file?

    I deleted the file but still got the error so I did a system restore to Sunday night and it's gone now........

    I sure wanted to try and get rid of whatever is causing me to get so much filthy porn email! I got one this morning from Hustler Magazine saying I had joined yesterday.

    LOL I had forgotten about XP's ability to restore (I don't use XP myself).

    Actually, Diane, some of those e-mails are because someone--your ISP, a free e-mail service, someone you signed up with using your e-mail address, etc.--gave your e-mail address to those people. Happens all the time.

    Juno, for instance, sells lists of e-mail addresses to advertisers in order to keep their e-mail service free.

    And each time you click on that little "unsubscribe" link in one of those e-mails, you've just opened yourself up for more e-mails. By doing the unsubscribe, you verify that yours is a working e-mail address. The people that you're unsubscribing from are in the business of making money, so they won't send you any more junk e-mail; but they'll sell your e-mail address to other advertisers so that they can still get money out of you. And you end up with a half dozen more junk e-mails.
