standy/hibernation

I'm using windows XP home edition and am having problems getting my laptop to shutdown or go into hibernation automatically. The only way I can get my machine to hibernate is to do it manually. When I go into power options and set my monitor to turn off after 2 mins, my hard disks to shut down after an hour and my system to enter standby after 2 hours, I then press apply and yet it doesnt work. My monitor turns off but the system never enters standy. I've tried hitting the *Save as* button but it always says *2 revision tables are incompatible*.......I've tried every combination on both tables *full power* aswell as *Battery* but to no avail. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for any help!!
