An epidemiologist and professor at the University of Stanford said Friday that Dr. Anthony Fauci’s credibility "is entirely shot" after revelations from his emails show a reversal on the subject of mask wearing to prevent COVID-19.

If people actually fact checked the information sources they used and then stopped using the sources that consistently misrepresent the truth because they know their readers will just blindly accept what they read/hear when it agrees with their pre-existing ideas, there would be a lot less idiots out there.

I guess I have to post this again.

I posted this back in March 2020 before the mask recommendation was in place because of shortages that explained why masks were not recommended.

If there was an unlimited supply of masks, then that would be the recommendation. As it is, there are not even enough masks for health care workers.

Surgical masks are not designed to keep things from coming in. They are desinged to keep the surgeon's coughing and sneezing from contaminating his/her surgical field. But yes it also keeps blood splatter and other fluids from getting in his nose and mouth. But viruses travelling in droplets will easily travel around the gaps on top and the sides of the surgical mask and most people tend to not wear the mask properly and touch their face more with a mask on. Surgical masks should be prioritized for people who are sick and coughing so they don't spread covid19 to others.

N95 masks that are designed for industrial/construction workers to prevent occupational dust inhalation and can also filter out viruses but need even more training to put on properly than surgical masks. They really should be reserved for heatlh care workers.

If there is an overabundance of masks, then yes, everyone should consider wearing one.

And I posted this in April 2020 after the change in recommendation occurred because the shortages were no longer the case.

The mask situation is simple to explain. It is true that surgical masks offer only partial or limited protection TO the wearer and are meant to protect everyone else FROM the wearer. They are designed to be worn by surgical teams to keep from contaminating the open wound of their patient. They still offer some protection to the wearer for blood splatter or large droplets from going directly in your mouth. But small aerosolized virus particles will easily get around the sides and gaps of the mask and still cause infection.

Early on when there was a massive shortage of masks, countries advised against the general public wearing masks to prioritize health workers. But as countries started getting more and more cases in the community it made sense to advise masks for everyone to prevent them from unknowingly spreading it to others (cloth masks do this almost as well as surgical masks so it saves the surgical masks for health workers). So your mask is more to keep others safe than it is to keep you safe, but it does provide you some protection.

N95 masks should be prioritized for those health workers directly working with Covid patients.

The fact that folks on this forum still post this nonsense about Fauci's mask recommendations despite me repeating this multiple times shows your willingness to avoid facts in order continue feeding a narrative you know is not true.
