Some on here refer to starting a church. But it seems that there are different definitions of that idea.

For some, it seems, that a denomination would start a church if there were a certain number of people who were of that denominations mind set and doctrine. Sort of like the synagogue where the Jews would start one if there were a certain number of Jews.

Others are using the idea of a person or persons starting a church and reaching new people with the Gospel.

My idea and what we have helped to do is starting a church "from scratch", doing evangelism and discipling those new people. I get this from Paul going into new areas in Acts.

What is your idea and definition of church planting?

" where 2 or 3 gather in my name I shall be there in their midst". Jesus Christ

Do this and you have a church. Location and building type are irrelevant.

Actually that's a formula for disaster and is not really a church plant.

So when my wife and I prayed last night, we were a church? That's plain silly.

You have not proven to me that that is inaccurate.....but we are getting off the op.

I say that there are enough disenchanted people in existing churches to draw from. Then there are those who have dropped off the rolls entirely. That would be mu initial target. And that's my core plan.

That is silly and there is no where in scripture that defines a church that way.

Maybe you ought to read Acts where they started real churches. I suppose you would like all the disgruntled ones in the church at Corinth for your "church"

It is not wise to try to start a church with "disgruntled" people. That is a recipe for disaster. And you are not likely to find a pastor who would take that on.

I know you might discount over 30 years of ministry and church experience, but when you bring disgruntled people together in a group all they do is simply share their complaints about the church.

But, I simply don't believe that taking other people who don't like their current church is what church planting is all about. It is about going into an area and reaching people with the Gospel. Paul goes to Ephesus and reaches unsaved people and organizes them into a church.

A church is organized, has Biblical leaders, engages in the purposes of a church as seen in Acts.

So your position is that the church has to be either disgruntled or docile? Those are the only two choices?

Disgruntled people only work to cause problems and cannot even get along with themselves. They are only looking to have their own way. And quite often can never be unified.

We've found that those who were disgruntled at other churches will be disgruntled at ours as well and usually for less than disgruntable things. :)

We HAVE had a couple of people come from dysfunctional churches, however, and usually those people need extra counseling/care because they just don't know what a decent church is like. For example we have one couple that was guilted into service in their own church and I spoke to the wife the other day and told her that the guilt she was feeling about not stepping into ministry was not from the Spirit but from her past experience at her old church. She had this perception that we were annoyed that she was not stepping into ministry when we knew her past and were actually expecting her to just be a member for a time until she was healed enough to be ready to minister. There was no annoyance at all!! So I don't mind people like that at all. It's the people who have their own agenda, weren't able to get it done in their old church so they move on to a church that will let them go ahead. Sorry honey, that's not going to be our church either!
