It feels so good to be posting a positive post. But in two weeks I start classes at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, with an intended major of a Bachelor of Science in Physics.

I'm looking forward to it. This semester I'm taking college algebra and some other core classes.

And the Satan said "Let's combine letters with numbers in order to have math."

A neutron walks into a bar; he asks the bartender, 'How much for a beer?' The bartender looks at him, and says 'For you, no charge.'

Good for you ... tough classes, but you can do it. Don't let anyone discourage you.

    Sapper Woody,

May God bless you in your studies leading up to a BS in Physics. That degree should serve you well in the future.

Is the Army giving you any help regarding paying for tuition and/or textbooks? Hopefully it is because I know from personal experience that textbooks, especially on subjects like algebra and higher-level math are outrageously priced. And books on other physics-related subjects are probably just as outrageously priced, if not more so.

Do you know if all your classes are teacher-led lecture and/or discussion-based, or are they part classroom, part lab-based? I'm just guessing, but I imagine that as you proceed in your physics major, you'll have a combination of both.

Oh yes, since some others have posted words of wisdom on math and/or science, here's some from me:

    1) Math is a 4-letter word.
    2) All numbers are ill-rational numbers.
    3) Pi are round, cornbread are squared.
    4) God must be a mathematician because He gave us an entire book entitled NUMBERS!
    5) God uses Base 10; He gave us 10 Commandments.
    6) A statistician uses mathematical calculations to derive at his conclusions. Therefore, a good statistician will conclude that if you put your head in a blazing hot oven, and your feet in a bucket of ice-cold water, on the average you'll feel just great!

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. I started yesterday, and I think I blew my Ethics Professor's mind when I began talking about conclusions that came from logical fallacies.

He's used to 18 year old freshman incapable of free thought. Out ought to be a fun semester.

PS will you be an unofficial recruiter for those 18 years olds?

Not actively. But they know I was in, and retired. I'm sure the subject will come up. As always, there will those people who try to identify with you, by saying, "I almost signed up, but..." or "My <insert family member> was a...".
