    Hello,
I was wondering if there is a statement of faith here. My first post on this was deleted and I am not sure why. Can someone enlighten me?
I am very interested in knowing who I am yoked with here.

    Hi Lady, Interesting screen name!!

If you will scroll past this post as far down as you can, you will see the link "Baptist Universe"

On the left there are links and the one 'Salvation' will give you lots of information.

Unfortunately, there has been extreme resistance to having a statement of faith here on BB.

Unfortunately, there has been strong resistance to the doctrine of Priesthood of Believers and freedom here on the BB. Fortunately, there are some Baptist who still stand up to the Papists wanna be in the Baptist denomination and resist the creeds and still stand for sola scriptura.

As you may have noticed, this thread has been transferred here from the Welcome Forum, for obvious reasons. [IMG]

By the way, the Statement of Faith has not received resistance from some as it may have been suggested, only it was not thought to be necessary heretofore because some believed and are maintaining that this site is not a church nor a missions organization. And although it caters to the spiritual welfare of many, and perhaps a simple Statement of Faith could be in order, it remains the sole responsibility of the Webmaster to implement the same. My humble opinion. [IMG]

    Barnabas,
That is what I was wondering about as well. In my opinion something like the basics of the faith, Jesus is God, virin Birth, Bible innerant. It seems appropriate that that there be some type of statement otherwise how do we know what the basics are?

HCL - do you know how many baptists (perhaps millions) you would be excluding by requiring affirmation of the Bible as "inerrant"?

On a similar note, isn't that what casued the earlier discord? I do understand some people's desire for this, but all I'm realy hearing is a Fundamentalist Forum Redux.

Yeah, and any good statement of faith would exclude many people who most need to interact with sincere, born-again believers: those who don't know Christ. We Christians can get a little too caught up with our own social circles sometimes, and forget that there is a whole world of people out there that is perishing and dead unless they find Christ and are born again.

Eric, people who are not believers are already excluded from posting on most of the board, and people who are not baptists are already excluded from posting on much of it. People who are not fundamentalist baptists are excluded from posting on one forum. It sounds like HCL is considering extending that exclusion to the entire "baptist" section of the board.

Uh, I think that's the point! [IMG] [IMG] </font>[/QUOTE]There is already the fundamental forum established. From what I have seen, those who participate still have not come to a conclusion about which "fundamental" doctrines are essential to post there.

The owner of the board can certainly do what he wants, but many of us do not support inerrancy because we believe it is not a biblical doctrine.

This is quite confusing to me actually. I know there are many people out there who call themselves Baptists, but they are not neccessarily born again. I agree that we should allow unsaved people to view and even post here. But, they ought to know where they stand. This is actually frightening to me that there is not a basic tenet of the faith listed here. If people do not know what constitutes Christianity how can you help anyone else find Christ?

I see your point, Joshua, but not everyone who professes to be a Baptist or Christian is saved. It's all about whether you have a living relationship with the Lord and Savior, not what church you go to or what is typed up in your profile. Having said that, if this were my web site (and it isn't) I'd be less restrictive about who could post where. I wasn't one of those advocating a Fundamentalist "secret club house" and I certainly wouldn't want to see those restrictions extended to other forum pages...

    Tee hee. "Secret club house."

Agreed that we can't know anyone's actual beliefs or salvation, but having a statement of faith wouldn't make that any less true. This is, after all, an anonymous place, even though some of us do share our realities with each other.

I guess what I wonder is, whose statement of faith would be posted? And would those who don't conform to one person's idea of "Baptist" be excluded from the Baptist forums?

There is a Statement of Faith at my church, as I'm sure there is at every church. This is not my church, this is a Baptist message board, no Statement of Faith is needed here. Putting this board on the same level of our home churches, it doesn't sound right to me. Two very separate things entirely.

Here is the description of this board that appears on the opening page:
I think this statement sums up what the board is all about.

It is for free discussion. The manager(s) of the board feel this is a beneficial activity for baptists. The manager(s) also warn that there may be disagreements (the understatement of the year) and that if one cannot handle this, they should stay out.

It is for baptists. It is for all kinds of baptists. Liberals, fundamentalists, conservatives, etc.

I don't think anything needs to be added to this as long as the moderators use discretion in policing what goes on. And I think they do a good job of this.

I say leave well enough alone.
