Ok, I know there has to be a way to take still pictures from WMV files.

Can someone tell me how?

easiest route: use Microsoft Movie Maker. In the preview screen, there's a "snapshot" icon (at the corner of the movie screen).

It isn't ultra-high-res...but it works good.
