He's completely dishonest in stating that he wanted it videoed for "legal reasons" too, as he stated to the sergeant, "It won't go any further," yet here it is on the Internet. He lied. Is that "preaching the gospel"?

Wow. What a bunch of Pharisees!

You people literally make me sick. A brother in Christ is arrested for preaching the gospel, and you MOCK him??

I know Josh. Not well, but well enough to know that he is a humble, kind, and loving dude, who is just out there trying to tell people about Christ.

This is the SECOND time in the last couple of weeks he was arrested. He is taping this, because the officers ARREST him, stop him, and then let him go, because its not actually against the law.

SAD that you guys would attack him for doing this....shame on all of you.

    Interestingly...

...as stated, there were others who were amplifying their voices and they were not charged.

The preacher was told that he was detained for raising his voice in preaching, because according to the police IT is wrong, and if THAT is wrong in and of itself why were the others not detained and/or arrested as well?

Well, because someone allegedly complained against this preacher, he was then detained and arrested, yet the other group which was admittedly in the wrong for being loud were left alone. So it's OK to be loud (although the police stated IT was wrong in itself to be loud) as long as:

    1) No one complains.

    2) You're not talking about the offense of the cross.

Yep. We get it. :wavey: (at least some of us anyhow)

Some in this thread would have cast the same nonsense they've written at the Apostles in their day, they'd find a reason to denigrate them.

That and Havensdad is 100% correct.

NO, NO, NO - he was shouting - he was going to be charged with breech of peace.

So if I am going 80 mph and you are going 90 mph, but the police stop me and not you, would that be wrong?out

Also, I noticed that the police did not arrive until about 8 minutes into the film. It appears that it was being filmed hoping he would be arrested.

He was simply asked to to lower his voice and he refused.

Suppose he went into a gated commuity - and started knocking on doors -which is not permitted - would he stop if requested?

And remember one big detail - he is not in the US - Scotland may have other laws.

Street preaching is ONE way to evangelize - but I prefer the friendship .....

It is NOT against the law in Scotland. As I stated, these officers are harassing him; he keeps being arrested, and then released. A Christian law firm TOLD him to record it; this is his normal "fishing hole."

Preaching is not "a way" to communicate the gospel. It is the PRIMARY means of communicating the gospel. Paul said "How can they hear {and beleive} unless someone PREACHES to them", not "how can they hear unless they hang out and drink coffee!

The fact is, it is the content of the message that is the problem. People on both sides of him were using loudspeakers....yet they were not arrested, because the CONTENT was more "acceptable."

So he was arrested for preaching the gospel.

I neither mocked him or attacked him. But you can see in the video that his style is to be confrontational. He constantly interrupts the police woman; in short he would not shut up when (repeatedly) politely asked. I'm going to take a WILD GUESS and suggest that this is also his preaching style. Confrontational. In your face. Challenging. Aggressive. Relentless. But rather than take hints from his audience he just plows ahead. That's the problem, IMO. Not that he's preaching the gospel but his style of preaching. He might want to model Paul's behavior in 1 Cor 9:19-22 and adjust his style to his audience.

Always disagree? I don't think it's that frequently. And I don't think we disagree about substantive things so much, just stuff along the edges.

It all boils down to perception.

IMHO there is a difference between the offense of the cross and trying to make the cross offensive.

Street preaching is not the be-all-to-end-all of evangelism. Personally I think there are much better ways to reach people than by standing on a street corner and hollering at them. My opinion should be worth as much as yours, I suppose.

If he feels led to do it in spite of the opposition, however, then he should- as the apostles did- be willing to bear the offense also.

There was absolutely nothing in your face, aggressive, etc. in the preacher's demeanor. He was actually VERY nice, considering the harassment he has endured.

It is his style that get's him in trouble....a biblical style. People didn't like Jesus' style, or Stephen's either.

His constant interruption of the policewoman, his constant questioning of things he wanted to do, his avoidance of getting into the car? I guess people see what they want to see.

Oh, I see. So he was nice, but with conditions attached.

He might want to model Paul's behavior in 1 Cor 9:19-22 and adjust his style to his audience.

I just see what is there. A police woman harassing a man for preaching the Bible.

Not at all. He was "nice" all around.

Considering what he has been through he was "very" nice.

Apparently you think a person should just allow the authorities to shut up the gospel...there is not a SINGLE instance of that in the Bible.

He was following the example of the apostles...

Act 4:19 But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge,
Act 4:20 for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard."

NO WONDER this country is falling into a cesspool of ungodly liberalism...

I guarantee you that a lack of street preaching is not the major problem.

A policewoman who was responding to complaints that the preacher was loud.

Nice leap to conclusion, that there. I think if he were to adjust his style of delivery, NOT the message he would have been just fine.

In Acts 4 the Sanhedrin sought to silence the apostles by forbidding them to speak ; in Scotland the police merely wanted him to tone down his loudness.

Inference being that I am in a cesspool of ungodly liberalism. Nice smear. And no, I don't think the reason this country is going down the tubes is because there is a dearth of loud street preachers.

We cant even agree on disagreeing

But back to the OP -
It is obvious that the "preacher" was intending to be arrested. Well, look at this way - its one way to do the jail ministry.

DISAGREE. That is God's pattern; send heralds out on the street to call men to repentance. It is what is seen throughout the Bible.

That is ridiculous. He has been preaching there for a long time, but now he "intended to get arrested"?

    That is just SILLY.
