Due to a technical issue one of the two nuclear generators of molybdenum-99 in the U.S. was shut down last week.
As of May 4th, 2006 the reactor was operational but due to the shutdown there will be a very limited amount of technetium (Tc99m) (the product used in most nuclear stress tests) over the next week.

Many labs are quickly changing to an old product, Thallium, but image quality is much poorer and due to lack of practice, physician technical ability to scans may be lacking.

If you need a nuclear stress test over the next week, check with your physician and the lab performing the service.

If your study is a routinely scheduled appointment (not due to any symptoms) you may be better off waiting until the shortage is over.
