    Hey People,

This may sound stupid, but I was wondering about the expectations from your churches upon the way you dress. I know a few pastors that will not leave the house without a tie or something like that. Do you ever go out in jeans or other casual attire? I ask because some people expect their pastor to always be decked out in a suit. I told you it was a stupid question.

    In Christ,

    Brooks

No questions a stupid question unless you know the answer to all questions...no one does! I'm not a pastor but personally feel that all Pastors should wear bermuda shorts and a T shirt and a pair of sandals with grey socks......of course, theres a high risk of being arrested by the fashion police, but oh well.

    That would be unreasonable.

I feel no expectations from my church on the way that I dress. I always try to look neat and clean whether I am in jeans and a t-shirt or in a suit. On Sundays I normally wear dress shirt, dress pants and sometimes a tie, sometimes no tie. Once in awhile I wear a suit. During the week I normally wear dress pants and a polo type shirt, but on occassion I will wear jeans to the office.

During the week I usually wear nice slacks and a polo shirt. On Sundays I wear dress slacks and a dress shirt (various bright colors). I do not wear a tie. In my personal dress I will wear a pull over shirt and jeans, and in the summer time shorts and sandals

On Wednesday night, our pastor will wear jeans, cowboy boots and a plaid or denim shirt. Sunday mornings he really dresses up tho.

That's cool. Funny though. I think its okay for a pastor to wear normal clothes. Unless the church wants to buy them suits for everyday of the week a church should not be shocked to see pastor in some jeans from time to time. [IMG] [IMG]

Most churches expected me to wear shirt/tie when in the office hours, coat/jacket in services on Sunday.

I expected that of my staff (had 9-10 in Christian school, secretaries, etc)

Otherwise I was dressed for the occasion. Wore shorts and sandals and tie-dyed shirt and drove my bike. Or blue jeans/sweats. Dressed like everyone else at the church picnic or mowing my lawn.

Now I only wear bow ties WHEN I wear a tie at all (seldom). Usually preach with turtleneck or banded collar look.

I don't think we should bear expectations upon the pastor about what he or she should wear. But, they should also use common sense.

I dunno saggy...Common sense could mean little if your pastor is given free reign to wear what he wants..especially if he is a naturist

If a pastor cannot figure out what to wear, he or she doesn't need to be pastor.

My church does not require a specific type of attire. With me, however, it's usually a jacket and tie on Sunday morning during the cooler weather. When it's warmer, the jacket is abandoned, and when it's hot the tie goes. I have been considering sackcloth and ashes on occasion. ;)

How about this for a look:

A Roman Catohlic looking black suit with a turned around collar, a purple robe, and a big pope had that has the initials 'SBC' written in a big cursive logo.
