Suicide and 911

What is normal about killing yourself? Isn't that the point? Suicide is outside of normal behavior. It is not the same as murder.

The Bible would differ with you. The Greek word for 'killed' in Acts 16:27 is murdered.

Hmm...no it isn't. Its anaireo which means to kill or put away as opposed to phonos or pheno which means murder.

Elsewhere in the New Testament, where murder is implied (eg. Matt 19:18, Mark 15:7, Luke 23:19, Luke 23:25, and Romans 1:29) the word phonos is used. However, it is not used in Acts 16:27, even though Luke did use the word previously.

@ sfic

Is it also suicide when you kill or sacrifice yourself to save others?

One is not going to commit suicide to save others. One may lose his or her life to save others though. Jesus did.

He did not commit suicide.

I did not say Jesus comitted suicide.

What if terrorists kidnap you and a couple of other christians and they say they will either kill you all but if you step forward and shoot yourself then they will let the others live. What do you do?

There go the nonsensical hypothetical questions again.

But I will answer the folly according to what God would have me do. I would refuse to kill myself, pray for my enemy and prepare to meet my God.

Yet always when murder is specifically implied, it is a different word.

Good try though.

I have not seen evidence that any of the jumpers or any of the people on flight 93 were saved. So how can one say they will not lose their salvation?
A cursory statistical analysis should tell us that, out of nearly 3,000 people who died that day, some of those were Christians.

Why is this folly? Because you don't like such questions?

Let's say in order to save your country you have to go on a suicide mission and deposit a bomb in an enemy plane but you know that you will not survive it but the lives of millions depend on the success of your mission. Would you simply let them all die?

I have seen no evidence that they were not "saved." You don't have a clue either way, and nor do I. We are speaking in hypotheticals, sir, and you would do well to keep up.

The word murder would not be in there if it did not mean murder.

But usually greek words have many different possible meanings at the same time. How exactly do you know that this word always means murder?

No fly, cc. I could say since 1 in every 4 people in the united states is an alcoholic would have to mean 40+ on my street are alcoholics.

or 1 in 3 people have a fear of flying, so a family of 3 would not be able to take one member in an airplane.

More nonsensical assumptions.

There had to be Christians killed in those tragedies because of the number killed? Not necessarily.

These hypothetical questions are not even biblical in nature.

Only because you don;t like them. To others, they call for deep theological discussion.

Of course, we don't have your patented Big Book O' Answers, either, so...

And this means? If you had been on the plane or in the WTC what would you have done?
I bet you would have stormed to the cockpit and you would have stopped the passengers from making the plane crash because this would be suicide and since you were on the "suicide plane", too, this would have sent you to hell with all the other passengers, right?

I do not have to speak of hypotheticals. The Word of God is clear on the subject of suicide. Seems many want to rewrite the Word to say just some murderers will end up in the lake of fire. Seems some want to change the Word to say 'we know that some murderers have eternal life abiding in them.'

Makes your head hurt to think in the abstract, huh?
