Sunday Christian

To appearance-- yes. Most of us are aware that either one is, or ain't, a Christian; and that means all the time. There are, nevertheless, some who make a big 'Christian' presence on Sunday, and there is nothing about them that shows even a little Christian presence at other times.

I remember a song when I was a kid in choir-- the "junior choir" I think it was called. And the song was "Sunday's Child." I can only remember one of the verses about different kids who did the Sunday School act and then didn't care the rest of the time... something like "Ernie O'Toole, so faithful in Sunday School, who goes home before church as a rule..." Then the chorus was: "Sunday's child-- don't be a Sunday's child. On Sunday he is quite a saint! But on Monday, Tuesday, ....Friday, Saturday a saint he ain't!"

Aside: that choir director was the pastor's wife, who was also the music teacher in the public school I attended. Every time we went over that song she made a speech about how she hated that word "ain't." Some of us latched onto flaunting the word around her in church for fun; not in school because she could make us write off sentences or take points off our grade. But in church she couldn't do anything but repeat her "I hate that word" speech. I think that ever since, I have liked throwing the word around.

When a person is said to be a sunday Christian I think this a derogative term, it refers to a person Whom You (we) dont like,because they dont measure up to a certain standard.And this could be true,they have not as yet(for the want of a better word)matured as a Christian.But it's a start,they may????? given time,you just dont know.
Lets hope so anyway.

I'm personally more concerned about those who are Monday through Saturday Christians. That is, those who don't properly keep the Sabbath Day holy.

 

I would see a Sunday Christian as a person who is involved in Habitual Sin yet not on a Sunday.
