Sunday School

Very important! we invite kids from neighborhood and tech them the Word of God. Most of them does not have christian parents.

Because of this ministry some of their parents has come to Christ and some of those kids are live testimony in their homes/families.

 

Ours is important in our church as well. We have a new converts class taught by our pastor that teaches those who want to come a 16 week course in basic Bible doctrines.

We also have many other adult classes and lots and lots of kid's classes.

Dr. Bob,
do the parents report in? I mean do you have a lesson sheet and they have to fill it out with their kids and turn it in? Something like that? Ive never heard of what you said before, and Im curious.

 

As I've said here before, we don't do sunday school either. The children and parents stay together for sound Bible teaching. At the opening of assembly, the children will recite Scripture (my young grandson can quote the entire 11th chapt. of Hebrews, something I've never attempted!) They are teaching themselves how to play the piano and guitar...one wants to learn the mandolin.

 

Family bible study at home is great, but Sunday School is such a wonderful way to learn more about our God that I can't imagine why anyone would miss such an opportunity (in addition to home bible study). The diversity of having a number of different people in the class allows us to hear opinions that may be different than our own, opening our minds to a better understanding, or enabling us to correct someone else's misunderstanding.

I can be an effective tool, its not essential or non-negotiable.

It is very important to have focused, complete, age-appropriate Bible teaching, but the format could take many forms.

We have SS for Kids, and Adult Bible Fellowships for Adults that go beyond Sunday Morning Bible teaching, they are the way our small group ministries are organized, and are very effective at integrating new members and visitors into the larger body.

 

I think Dr. Bob's SS format sounds great. The more I think about it, the more it seems to be in agreement with the Scriptures. I'll bet he's glad he's in Casper. If he were any closer I'd have to visit to get a first hand look!

 

How to reach children that does not have christian parents?

 

I grew up in a non-Christian home and went to church with a girlfriend from about 4th grade on. It was in their Sunday School that I learned the Bible stories and learned to trust God.

we have bus routes that pick up kids from all over the city to come to a "Sunday School" which we actually hold on Saturday. This is because we don't have enough room for all the classes to be held on Sunday, and it frees up many of our teachers to go to their own class on Sunday.

 

I think Sunday School is very important as well as teaching biblical truths to your children at home. Sunday School to me is very good for al of us and a great time for our children to learn.
