If the democrats are smart, they'll listen. Push the domestic agenda to give America back to Americans. Investigate and root out corruption, especially the billions that disappeared in Iraq.

But be very careful about timetables for getting out of Iraq. Put that one on Bush's lap, and hold him accountable. Serve as a watch dog for abuses inherent in the "Patriot" act.

They should remember that Bush made the mess; he should be made to clean it up, with Congressional oversight. They don't have to change it all themselves.

If they're smart, that's what they'll do. But given the democrat propensity for doing the worst possible thing politically, I have to wonder if they'll do it.

The fact that the new democratic Congress is more moderate than the last one might be a good sign.

 

The problem with the Commies is that they want to give America to the illegals just as bad as Bush does to win them as a new majority vote. I pretty much agree with your analysis though. I have actually started a thread in the politics forum discussing the results of the election and what message was sent and who is getting the message and who is getting it mixed up.

The Democrats now control one of the branches of the federal government. They will now bear equal responsibility with the executive branch controlled by the Republicans for what happens in Iraq during the next two years and for how the economy performs.

I suspect that the democrats, lacking a veto-proof majority, will not be able to do much in the next two years, so long as Bush lets Rove make the decisions. They can turn over rocks to expose some of the nastier corruption, but unless Bush cooperates with them, that's about it.

Bush and Rove now have different agendas. Bush would like to be remembered as more than a miserable failure, and Rove wants vindication of his theory that one can rule by mustering a minority of motivated extremists.

Bush isn't a strong person; no doubt, he will be reasonable in his meetings with Pelosi, but then right afterwards, Rove will scurry in, to try to sabotge whatever progress might have been made.

The last guy to talk to Bush generally wins.

I guess it depends on which "truth" you are talking about. The truth that the democrats defeated the republicans soundly is truth I enjoy. The truth that Rumsfield is finally gone is truth I enjoy. The fact that President Bush lied about his intentions concerning Rumsfield is truth I don't enjoy. I don't like it when our Presidents lie, whether it is Clinton or Bush.

 

Bush's approval rating is down 4 points from where it was before the election.

I think a good bet would be that, most people did not change their minds about Bush, but Republicans are mad that he waited until after the election to fire Rumsfeld. 4 points ain't much, but it's quite a bit bigger than his margin of victory in either of his elections.

I look forward to the fiscal soundness that will, no doubt, come with Congress being controlled by a party not of the President. That should give a nice little deadlock on costly programs and might help us save some money.

The same was true when Clinton was in office with a Republican Congress.

The only thing that worries me somewhat is the Senate. What if another Supreme Court Justice retires or dies in the next two years? One thing I was happy about with Bush is his picks for the SCOTUS. I'm just not sure if, number 1 the nominee will make it out of committee, and if the nominee will be filibustered, or votes be cast straight down party lines.

Hopefully, there are now enough Conservative Senators to okay a potential conservative SCOTUS nominee.
