Taking Gods name in vain

Many think the only way to do this is a cuss word however assigning something as Biblical when it's not is taking Gods name in vain. For example as the guest speaker used the Bible translation and dress code issues as ways to take Gods name in vain. He did not get into alcohol but it could be another. Many Baptist type churches think only one translation is all God honors and or people must always be formally dressed to be on stage or usher. Males for example always must be in a suit and those in collared shirts and dress pants are not dressed up enough. Regardless it was a good message and I am open to discussion. Sure lots of ways I take his name in vain even though I do not cuss.

The biggest way I see people taking God's name in vain is calling themselves by His name (Christian) and not living it. They have taken His name, but it's in vain.

A second way is people harboring sin in their life, yet praying. "If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me." It's vain to pray in that case. Yet they'll still close with "in Jesus' name".

The Hebrew word for "take" does not simply mean to use His name in a cuse word although it would include that because of being used in less than a holy manner.
The Hebrew word is on the same par as a woman who marries a man and takes his name for her own. She was a Jones and now is a Smith. She is now to live up to the standards of that new name she now claims as her own.

Everything she does would either glorify the name or take it in vain. The same with anyone who claims to be a child of God (a Christian) If the practice of our lives is not living holy we are not forgiven according to scripture(He will not hold us guiltless). Make no mistake while we are not saved because of how we live how we live is the proof of our salvation. 1John 2:3,4
