Teaching qualifications??

These are the items that are in our worker's covenant that each worker must sign before taking on any responsibility in the church such as teaching a class.

1. I testify that I am a born again child of God. I can tell you a time in my life when I accepted Jesus Christ as My personal Savior. (Please write a short testimony of your salvation experience on the back of this worker’s covenant or on a separate sheet of paper.)

2. I have been baptized into the body of Christ as a testimony of my salvation experience.

3. I will not use tobacco products.

4. I will not drink alcoholic beverages of ANY kind, at anytime, at anyplace.

5. As a worker, I believe that I need to set an example for believers and non-believers. I believe that men should dress like men and women should dress like women. I agree that I will not wear pants (If you are a woman) and my wife should not wear pants (if you are a man) at anytime during a service or on church property. Also please note that women are STRONGLY encouraged to also abide by the rules outside of the church. Men and women alike should dress themselves in a modest manner that is pleasing to God.

6. I agree that I will fellowship in harmony with all people of this church. If there is ever a problem between myself and another brother or sister in Christ, I will do my best to Biblically resolve the matter. If I am unable, I will consult the pastor to help us.

7. I agree to be faithful to ALL of the services including Sunday school, Sunday Morning, Sunday Night, and Wednesday night. When revival or special meetings take place, I agree to be present unless circumstances beyond my control hinder me. I will contact the Pastor if I am unable to attend services and explain the situation.

8. I understand that at anytime that I do not comply with the above rules I jeopardize my position and may be suspended from my position at anytime.

 

Must be a member in good standing. That's about it.

 

Having the gift to teach certain groups is definitely needed. All of our people have a burden for the age groups they work with and the relationships they form with their classes are wonderful.

 

Our folks usually aren't asked to teach unless they display an aptitude for it.

 

Not enough. Usually a recommendation for a teacher is presented to our "education team" for review. This recommendation could come from the Pastor or any member of the church. If there are no objections to the candidate and the candidate is willing, then they become a teacher. Generally, it will always be someone who is active in the life of the church and sets a good example in faith and conduct.

 

Member in good standing.
Record of faithfulness to the church body.
Consistent testimony of spiritual growth.
Consistent testimony of being an example of what it means to be a Christian.
Sufficient spiritual maturity to teach the age group.
Aptitude to teach.
Willingness to put the time and effort into it.

 

I notice that nobody has mentioned any doctrinal requirements. Is that unimportant when choosing a teacher? I would think that what a person believes would be quite important.

I suspect people assume that if you joined the church, you accepted the doctorine. (I think that's a false assumption, since many don't know the doctorine, but ..... )

I would never assume that. I know lots of folks who join churches for many reasons other than doctrine. Just look at Bill Clinton.

I set down and talk to all potential teachers in the children and youth departments. They must be grounded in the word and doctrine is part of what I look at. I have asked several teachers to step down in August and i will replace them with vibrant,dedicated, and grounded teacher.

His pastor believes the same thing about abortion as W.A. Criswell did.
