Television... do YOU watch it?

Haven't watched it in years...nothing but filth there.

 

Very little watched anymore other than government meetings, news, which is not really news any more and a news magazine now and then. Commercials we see on these few shows make us think we out to have a sale.

Like a relatives church - pastor told them to sell their tv sets to get the rot out of their homes so they all put ads on the church bulletin board uuuummmmmm.

I have to use the same discernment when I watch TV that I do when I read the News Paper or any other secular books and materials.

The unsaved produce many things that are filthy and have no redeemable quality, while at other times they produce some things that do have redeemable qualities.

If I threw out my TV, I would have to throw out my radio, stop buying the News paper, and never go to public library again - they all take the same discernment.

Yes, I watch TV. I watch some things I probably shouldn't. I don't have HBO, Showtime, Cinemax or any of the premium channels. I got one of those Premium channels (don't remember which one) free for about six months once. I had called the Cable company and told them about it but they said that if they fixed the problem of my getting a signal that I shouldn't receive then it would hurt the signal of the other folks hooked up to the same pole. However, after starting to watch a few things I REALLY had no business watching then I called them back and told them to fix it. I don't think I have a great deal of self control.

 

About all I really watch anymore is Fox News,The History Channel,Animal Planet....and Speed Channel(I'm a NASCAR fan).With this stuff at least you know what they are about.Notice I didn't include ANY of the "religious" channels like Inspiration or TBN....too much false doctrine and unscriptural junk on them.I don't want to even take the chance of something deceptive "creeping in unawares".

If you haven't watched in years, how do you know it is nothing but filth? That is quite a broad brush. There are very good history, travel, home improvement, cooking and other shows. I especially like Food Network. I would not call shows like Emeril, Rachel Ray, Unwrapped, and Good Eats as "filth".

I watch the History channel, Discovery channel, all the REAL forensic shows such as Cold Case Files, Forensic Files, I Detective etc. Those aren't filth to me. They are real everyday happenings.

Exactly right!

 

I watch free to air TV, Aussies have about one in four houses connected to Cable, so it is not real popular yet, I mainley watch Aussie Rules Football.

 

Any Cartoon Network/Boomerang fan here?

 

If one does not watch TV because one believes that it promotes filth, then they should also refrain from using the internet which also has it's share of legalized filth.

Here are a few statistics:

So, what is the big difference between using the control of your mouse (chosing for instance the BB) over the internet sites you visit and the control you have via the TV channel changer?

Also, everytime you pay your internet connect time bill you support (at least indirectly) this industry of legalized efilth.

Thank you C4K! We live out in the country and only get the regular stuff off our antenna, like CBS, NBC, ABC and the public station. The shows got continually worse, and we had no control over what kind of commercial was gonna pop up. Even if you watch sports, you get the naked women and beer commercials...cooking, you get those wine recipes and even the home-repair shows had some things we didn't approve...like that one with a man/woman who weren't married to each other.

When I hold my Scripture signs on the streets, I can't defend it very well if I've had a night of cussing, fornication, and worse going on in my face...I'd be a hypocrite. As far as the internet, I pray over my 'puter every morning before I log on that the Lord will keep me from all unsavories; my screen-saver says "Isn't the love of Jesus wonderful?!" The only places I frequent are Baptist/Christian boards, church & preacher sites, some women stuff...the one secular site I go to is our local newspaper forum because these are people that see us and have had a chance to "talk" to some of them about the street-ministry. If the internet gets to the point I can't control what I see, I'll no longer have it.

It's bad enough having to deal with the nakedness in the stores, (I only go when I absolutely have to), but I don't need tv, secular magazines, and other junk filling my home with filth.

 

Exactly, HankD! I would hate to be so afraid that I might view some skin that I would become a recluse and hide myself from any medium that could enrich my life. It is a matter of discernment. Any medium can be used for good, or to exploit other parts of our nature. However, I am not so focused on what I don't want to see as to be afraid to view programs or read or use the net.

Granny, I never saw any naked people in the stores here. You must live in quiet a wild town!

To me, TV is a tool, same as a knife, a computer, or a radio...anything and everything can be used for good or evil, even a Bible. Legend has it that Cain killed Abel by smiting him with a wooden club. Now, GOD didn't grow the tree from which that club was made from as an object of evil...part of that tree was used by a man to commit an evil deed.

Long as we're here, we're not gonna live in a sanitized world and never be exposed to evil. We must use the discernment God has given us to recognize that evil. I watch "religious " programming both to learn and to "know the enemy".

However, if all that was on TV were those trashy reality/relationship shows, I'd simply hook a videogame console to it & use it as a TV only at news/weather time.
